With the Olympics in full swing and golf sadly not part of the festivities, we come upon the final golf major of the season.

The Rules
1. Everyone will pick 5 golfers.

2. We may have a maximum of 2 golfers from the top 10 of world rankings as of July 30, 2012 in our fivesomes. The current top 10 is:

3. The lowest 4 total scores from each tipper’s fivesome will be added together to make the final score, and the lowest total score wins.

4. If one of your golfers fails to make the cut, his score from the first two rounds will be doubled to account for his final two rounds.
-A golfer must finish the first two rounds in order for his score to be counted towards the total

Tiebreaker
The lowest score from each tipper’s fifth golfer will serve as the tiebreaker. Should that be the same, it will go to the fourth-highest score and so on.

*- The tie between wwe84 and gtho4 could not be broken as they picked four of the same golfers save Rich Beem and Phil Mickelson, respectively, who both shot a 291.

After three exciting finishes to the first three golf majors of the year, Rory McIlroy decided to rout the field at the PGA Championship by 8 strokes, winning his second major of his young career. He came into the final round with a 3-stroke lead and everyone else seemed to melt away as he finished -6 on the day. The final round looked like it might be interesting early on, with Ian Poulter within 2 shots of the lead after birdieing 6 of the first 7 holes, but a bogey on #8 and finishing +3 in the last 11 holes put him out of contention. There was a simple rule for all participants if you wanted to make the podium for this tournament: pick Rory McIlroy. Sypher did so with Tiger Woods and Louis Oosthuizen, who both finished par or better, and won it all. LeoDaVinci did so with Keegan Bradley and finished second. Ozzz2002 did so with Adam Scott, and finished third. Ozzz2002 looked like he was on the way to victory with Vijay Singh tied for the lead after two rounds and still at -2 after the third round, but Vijay finished +5 on the day, putting ozzz himself 5 shots off the lead. Outside of McIlroy’s play, the main story was the weather. Winds blew consistently 20-30 mph on Friday, and the second round of play proved to be one of the toughest rounds in major history, with only 5 players finished under par for the round, while 2 players went over 90. One of those under par was Michael Hoey, who disqualified himself after the round was over because he did not replace sand that was on top of his ball after he marked and replaced his ball in the sand. On Saturday, a thunderstorm came over the course with over a third of the field still playing, so it had to be finished on Sunday morning. At the time play was stopped, McIlroy and Singh were tied atop the leaderboard at -6. After the round ended on Sunday, McIlroy was -6 while Carl Pettersson sat at -4. And with that, we finish the major golf season for 2012, and prepare for 2013 on April 11 for the Masters!
