Has anybody heard of the graphic novel series, called 'Kill Shakespeare', which was first started 2 years ago?
I just discovered it and couldn't put it down.
It basically takes the Shakespearian universe and turns it on its ear, with characters in it like Hamlet, Falstaff, Richard the Third, Juliet, among others.
The plot involves the characters knowing that Shakespeare is their creator, with some wanting to kill him and others fighting to keep him alive, and plot twists like Hamlet and Juliet falling in love, and Lady Macbeth killing her husband and taking up with Richard makes for some very interesting reading.
Shakespearian purists will pitch a fit, (most likely), but
it has gotten very good reviews, including one from a Shakespearian scholar.
Don't make the mistake of equating Graphic Novels with being glorified comic books, they can be and usually are so much more then that. Well written and beautiful coloring will spark interest where mere words sometimes can't.
My apologies if seem to be overselling here, but i just found it so darn interesting.
I would have to say if i read this back in highschool, it would have made Shakespeare come more alive, and coincidentally given me better marks in Literature.
Give it a try.
