Twenty20 Champions League 2012 in South Africa, October 9-28The Fourth edition of the T20 Champions League cricket takes place in South Africa this year between October 9 and 28, just 2 days after the T20 World Cup is over!!! You don't need any cricketing know-how to take part in this slam-bang comp here. All we can do here is toss a coin (or throw a dart) and pick the winners for each match. No bankers to pull you down, and bonus points if you are the sole tipper of a match. Best of all, it's not a long competition and it's all over in less than a month. Previous winners of the competition include gtho4 in 2009, paper_aero in 2010 and Sypher last year. Ozzz2002, BxBarracuda and George95 were also on the extra-long podium last year. Can BxBarracuda make it 3 podium finishes in a row this year? Or will it be your turn this year? Put your name down here if you would like to take part so I know you will be there. 11 people took part in the comp last year. Hoping to see a decent turn out this year too.... ****************** Format: 2 teams from England, 1 each from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies play qualifiers (6 matches) and 2 teams qualify for main tournament. Qualifiers: Uva Next (Sri Lanka); Trinidad & Tobago (West Indies); Auckland (New Zealand); Sialkot Stallions(Pakistan); Hampshire and Yorkshire (England) Main tournament: 2 groups of 5 teams playing each other in league format (10 matches per group) followed by semis and finals. Looks like a lot of new teams in this year's competition from last. Yes...this is one competition where the defending champions may not even qualify for the next edition...it is based on the domestic T20 championships of each country and only the top teams get to play the Champions League (but unlike in UEFA, defending champions do not get an automatic entry  )

Welcome to the 2012-2013 cricket season! A BIG welcome back to doomed, who makes a return to the tipping forums after what...3 years?
We start the season with a short, snappy and crazy T20 bash called the Champions League...this is the 4th edition of the tournament and we have managed to have a competition every season!!!!
And just like the crazy cricket itself, the results here also will be totally unpredictable...and who better than Ozzz2002 to lead us into the new season! he picked 4 of the 6 qualifiers, including a sole pick bonus and is at the top after the qualifying round. But he's not alone this time. Joining him at the top with the same score and the same sole pick bonus is illiniman14! Let's see if they can build a small run here...
Trying to keep pace with the two at the top is defending champion Sypher, who is 2 points behind....a whole bunch of us are on 2 points, including leoDaVinci, who got that score off only 4 picks as he lodged his tips a day late.
Getting off the wrong foot in the long season ahead is srini701, who failed to pick a single match

So what happened with T&T and Uva Next? Oh! It rained heavily after the start of the second innings...Normally in cricket, when a match is interrupted, a scoring method called Duckworth-Lewis method of scoring is determined to reset the target with the overs reduced. T20 has a stipulated playing time (3 hours) in which to complete the whole match. But in this case, there was no chance of even a reduced match, so after the stipulated time was over, the match was officially called off and both teams awarded equal points...Here in our comp, nobody gets any point (or give everybody 1 point...at least that way I may have scored 1 point  )

The so-called "big" teams from the IPL have so far failed to win a single match in the Champions League this year, except when they are playing one another The Highveld Lions from South africa beat both Mumbai and Chennai and are pretty strongly placed to reach the semis from their group alongside Sydney Sixers, who also won both their matches so far. The Auckland Aces continue their winning ways, beating the IPL champions Kolkata, who have lost both their matches to date.
Ozzz2002 here built on his good first round with another fine round, and has stretched his lead at the top to 2 points, ahead of doomed, who won the round's HoF with 5 right picks out of 7! illiniman14, for whatever reason, forgot to lodge his tips, and the default spoon score sees him slipping a place.
paper_aero and Sypher got the round's only bonus points for picking the win of Auckland over Kolkata. N-Bomb will wish he had backed his home team, as he shared the round's spoon with george95 and Sypher. All of them landed just 1 right this round

Looks like I should start picking no results...
illiniman14 got it right this round on more than 1 count 3 of the 7 matches this round were washed out, 2 of them midway through the first innings and 1 without even a ball being bowled...leaving a maximum possible of 4 matches to score from...illiniman14 got all 4 right, and so did 4 others this round...unfortunately can't award perfect pick bonus for this to anybody .
ozzz2002 continues to lead the table, but illiniman14 is just a point behind...will he regret not lodging his tips in round 2? We'll have to wait and see
Our defending champion, Sypher's luck seems to have run out in this comp, with yet another spoon, and the rains seem to have scuttled more than his hopes alone...Sydney Sixers and Highveld Lions became the first teams to make it to the semi-finals, knocking out both Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Mumbai Indians out of the tournament...

The 4 semi-finalists were finalized when Auckland Aces lost to Perth Scorchers and the semis line-up decided when rain had the last laugh in the league match between Delhi and the Titans.
So the semis would be: Delhi Daredevils vs Highveld Lions and Sydney Sixers vs Nashua Titans
N-Bomb had a near perfect round there (who knows he may have had a perfect round if not for the rain!) to jump all way from the bottom of the heap to podium prospect! At the top, ozzz2002 picked up a spoon (along with gtho4, Leo and BxB) and allowed illiniman14 to take possession of the lead....
It looks like a very, very tight race to the podium here with anybody in the top 6 likely to be up there. So just in case anybody still has any doubts about the way the podium is decided in case of dead-heat, it is:
1. HoF vs spoon differential
2. If still equal, the number of HoFs
3. If still equal, number of bouns points won
But please take a moment and look carefully at the table.....at the bottom of the heap....that's a very, very unusual sight in ANY tipping comp out here...and I have been playing most comps here for over 6 years now ....Is Sypher smarting???? You bet he is!

4 CL T20 comps and 4 different winners! Congrats to illiniman14 for winning the second craziest cricket comp here in FT (the craziest is still the IPL  ) .... and BIG congrats to Ozzz2002 for retaining a place on the podium from last year! Final congrats should go to wwe84 for a steady comp and for pipping N-Bomb to the final podium place!
N-Bomb took a risk and went for broke in the final round...however the Sydney Sixers were just too strong for the entire competition and with a bowling attack that could well be Australia's front line bowling in a year or two, simply blew their opponents away in all matches. The Highveld Lions did well to reach the final but just did not have the firepower to match the Sixers, who thus become the second team from NSW to win the tournament....
BxBarracuda picked the lot in the final round but left it a little too late to reach for the podium....srini701 finished the comp as he started it...with a big, fat zero and a place in the cellar
Thank you all for playing the comp and hoping to see you all turn out for the World Cricket comp over the next few months too....
