The NBA season is not far away as the preseason has begun. Come one, come all and tip your way through the NBA! Rules: - One point for a correct tip.
- Deadlines will be Friday midnight FT with a three hour grace period thereafter. The tipping comp organizer will determine if a post is late.
- New from last comp: Default is equal to the higher of six or Wooden Spoon score. **
- Tips not in by the first game's tipoff will receive default score.
- We will tip the opening day games, then 15 games each weekend (all Saturday and enough Sunday/Monday to equal 15).
- As per last comp, the midpoints around the All-Star weekend will not be tipped. **
Bonus points: - One point for picking a result solo, or one of two, provided 12 tippers apply.
- One point for picking 13 or more of 15. There were enough weeks last comp (**) that earned a near miss bonus, and this year's comp will determine next year's eligibility.
- Tippers will be ineligible for bonus points if they tip all homes or all bar one.
**This year’s comp bases off the 2010-11 comp since we cancelled the 2011-12 comp due to labor negotiations that ultimately shortened the season to 66 games beginning on December 25. Sign up here if you are interested.

Welcome to the 2012-13 NBA comp? What hangs in the balance for the Heat, after their championship run last year? Will the Lakers dethrone them, or will it be one of the other 14 West teams? That question will be decided in June.
Welcome new tipper wwe84 to the comp, and out of the gates, he snags the first weekly win, by scoring double digits. Paper_aero did too, but as his was the sole bonus point (what made him pick Golden State?), he's not Hall-worthy with nine correct.
The New York-Brooklyn game was postponed due to Superstorm Sandy that hit just days prior to tipoff.
LeoDaVinci, who didn't tip this week, is probably seething at dg_dave, wwe84, and themonarch for tipping against his Lakers. The three amigos must have known that Kobe wasn't up to par yet. No one was as lucky against Portland.

Apologies about the delay, but work gets in the way lol.
Quite a bit of movement, and LeoDaVinci couldn't stay away long. He came in nailing a weekly win in his first week, while dg_dave and N-Bomb secure the other weekly wins. Ozzz2002 finds the cutlery and the cellar in the same week. I have a feeling he is like a cat ready to pounce at any moment.
Somehow LeoDaVinci's and dg_dave's stargazing paid off, as both picked the Hornets to win in the Windy City, while dg_dave went with Golden State in the Staples Center against the lesser LA team. Speaking of LA teams, who had the hide to pick winless Detroit to win away? None other than dg_dave (who isn't really a Kobe fan) and wwe84.
LeoDaVinci starts on dg_dave's point total of four, as the latter was the cellar dweller last week.

It's an up-and-down comp for dg_dave, as his first three weeks he's picked up an award...Spoon-Win-Spoon. Will he procure a Win next week?
Five's the number to pick on the road, as all three weeks so far have had five road wins (one week had a postponement due to a hurricane).
Time for dg_dave to be seething at LeoDaVinci, since the latter must hate the Mavericks. LeoDaVinci was the sole tipster to pick the Bobcats to finally beat the Mavericks, and he has 50 words to explain himself. Ozzz2002 joins him in picking Minnesota to beat Dallas (what did Dallas do to you, Leo? Granted, I know it's a warmer winter and less snow than in Ontario, but you can't fault them for that lol.)
The big upset was the World Champion Miami Heat losing at Memphis...yes, that is correct, Memphis beat Miami. No one had the idea to pick that one. The only other game to have less than ten pick correctly was a game that took 58 minutes of game time to decide.
Doomed picks up seven points on default since it is the higher of six or Wooden Spoon.

A huge week overall, as we hit paydirt on over ¾ of our tips this week. The only tipper not scoring double digits was our Spooner, ozzz2002.
The three who picked up a bonus point for going 13/15 are probably puzzling like the Grinch...how did they not get the weekly win? The answer is simple, as themonarch was king of the ring this week with his stellar picks of 14/15.

Everyone was on board this week, and another big week, as all but three of us again score double digits. Both ozzz2002 and wwe84 are breathing easier, as doomed only came away with six. If he hadn't tipped, he'd have scored three more! If the Clips and Jazz had won, we'd have hit paydirt on over 78% of tips, which would have bested last week's 76.2% mark.
Five of us are scratching our heads this week as N-Bomb, already atop the leaderboard, skipped away with the only bonus point by going 13/15. He also is the first player without a one-point lead.
With seven points spanning from 2nd to 12th, there will be another set of swaps next week. Only gtho4 and N-Bomb stayed as they were this week.

We have our eighth leader of this comp in Howie72. Will he keep the top of the heap tidy or will it be a mess? We will find out next week. We have all had a short time in the top ten, as no one has two digits for their best placing. Is this season going to be that close?
Maybe we ought to do what doomed and ozzz2002 did...pick against the Lakers! We might just hit paydirt like the two of them. Coincidentally, those were the only two bonus points given this week.
Also, ozzz2002 keeps his cellar space clean as he picks up his fourth Spoon of the seven-week-old season, and second consecutive. He had been staying Spoonless in odd weeks, but it caught up with him. He was also the only tipper (again) not to hit 50%.
Five players are looking up at paper_aero this week as he shoots for 11, while the other five round out the doubles at 10 each. Also, five players nailed nine each to make our modes nine and ten.

Howie72 must have known that Atlanta would lose at home to the Warriors, since no one else picked it. He picks up the sole bonus point this week for that effort.
Paper_aero and LeoDaVinci both had a dirty dozen to lead all scorers, while doomed had just a handful and picked up the cutlery.

It took nine weeks, but we have our first default score. Doomed failed to lodge picks, therefore he scores either higher of six or Spoon, which was wwe84's seven. Last week it would have been six, as Spoon was five.
N-Bomb picks up the only bonus point this week with his stellar picks of 13/15. Most everyone, save for a few, scored at least ten this week.
Next week will see several click over triple digits, as N-Bomb just misses it this week at 99.
The Clippers keep on clipping everyone off and win yet again. Are more people watching Clippers games than Lakers games? Only the fans and LA'ers will be able to answer that.
No one had faith in Cleveland to beat Milwaukee.
