Well, November is almost upon us and we have an opportunity to pick a new book for our reading pleasure. It's been really eye-opening to read many of the books suggested whether we discuss them or not, especially as everyone has such diverse tastes. I always look forward to the new books.

Anyhow, the genre for this two-month period will be award winners. Please state the award that your book nomination has won, and write a brief synopsis as to what the book is about.

All right, let's see what we can come up with!

I am nominating "Andersonville" by MacKinley Kantor. Won the Pullitzer Prize in 1956.

It deals with the story of Andersonville, the notorious Confederate prisoner of war camp during the American Civil War. Several different points of view of given, including those of the camp commandant, who in real life was later executed.

I am nominating "The Fountains of Paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke. It won both the Hugo and the Nebula awards.

The story is about the construction of a space elevator, how it is built and the problems that come with that (including trying to move Buddhist monks from their home) and what happens when the trials of its operation are conducted. I've never read it but I've always thought it would be a great book to read.

I am nominating 'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George Martin

The book is about life in feudal era (with some modern terms included). Everyone is aiming to win a 'game of thrones', which is a game of survival. Like one of the characters said 'You win or you die, there's no middle ground'. In order to survive, characters plot, betray and even kill their former leaders and friends.
