Apart from PaulE reclaiming pole position, there was no change in the first four spots .. ditto at the other end, where ozzz2002 kept his spot at the rear with another wooden spoon in his satchel. In between, just two of the other 16 players kept their position from the previous round.
The 13 players running 4th to 16th are now separated by just 5 pts .. down from 7 pts in the previous round, and 8 pts in the round before that. This is unusual, as we usually drift apart as the season progresses.
There were a truckload of upsets. Two of the 16 games in the Fourth Round were picked by no-one, three were solo picks, and another two were picked by just 2 or 3 players. Norwich City lost at home to a non-league team! This is the 4th time in the history of the FA Cup that a team in the top division lost at home to a non-league team. This didn't bother wwe84, who had the hide to pick this humungous upset.
QPR lost at home to MK Dons, a League One team. This is the 8th time that a team in the top division has lost at home to a team in the third division.
No-one picked this upset, but paper-aero scored a bonus point for picking a draw!

In another upset Liverpool also lost to a League One team (aka the third division) .. ozzz2002 had the hide to pick a win by Oldham Athletic! That's three FAPL teams knocked-out of the FA Cup. Two more were knocked out by FLC teams (aka the second division) - Aston Villa lost away to Millwall, and Spurs lost away to The Mighty Whites. That brings the total to five!
Chelsea were nearly the sixth .. they were behind 2-1 away to Brentford from League One but equalised in the 83rd to earn a replay.

Chelsea beat Midlesbrough overnight to finally bring to an end the 4th Round of the FA Cup. Everton beat Oldham Athletic the night before, to finalise the eight teams which progress to the quarter-finals.
There's no change at the top, the first three retain their positions from the 3rd Round .. from 4th through to 16th only one person in those 13 slots retained their position - LeoDaVinci in 12th place.
The first two have opened a mini-break of 3 pts on the rest us. The next 13 runners are separated by 7 pts (up from 5 pts).
At the other end, ozzz2002 kept his spot at the rear but is now a mere 2 pts behind FussBudget, who collected this round's wooden spoon.
There were just two upsets of note in this round .. wwe84 picked Arsenal to lose at home to Blackburn Rovers, and paper_aero picked Oldham Athletic, from the third tier, to hold Everton to a draw.

We have a dead-heat out front .. the two leaders are this week's winners. They extend their lead over the rest of us to 5 points! Behind them we have a triple dead-heat for 3rd place .. Sypher follows 3 pts in arrears. Although the next 10 players (that's half the field) are separated by just 3 points, the leader of that pack of ten is 10 pts behind the leaders which, with just two rounds left, probably means the winner of this comp must surely come from the first six (aka Sypher and up).
Wigan Athletic beat Everton away to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time in their 81 year history. Their previous best was in 1987 when they reached the quarter-finals for the first and, until this year, only time. They were a member of the Third Division at that time and lost their quarter final 0-2 at home to Leeds United (who were at that time in the Second Divsion). Leeds lost their semi 3-2 aet (2-2) to Coventry City, who went on to beat Tottenham Hostpur in an All-First-Division final 3-2 aet (2-2) for their first and only FA Cup win. Wigan Athletic, formed in 1932, did not join the Football League until 1978, when they were voted in to the Fourth Division (and Southport were voted out) .. the current system of automatic promotion (admission) up to the Football League did not commence for another nine years. In 1982 they finished third and were promoted to the Third Division, but were relegated back in 1993 when they finished second-last. This was the club's first and only relegation.
From there they commenced a slow climb from the cellar all the way to the top .. they were promoted back to the third tier of English football in 1997 as Champions; and in 2003 were promoted to the FLC (for the first time ever), again as Champions. They won promotion to the FAPL (yet another first), when they finished 2nd in the FLC in 2005.
With that pedigree, no one expected them to win away at Goodison Park, particularly as their focus this season has been on FAPL survival; avoiding relegation back to the FLC (aka avoiding their second-ever relegation). They scored 3 goals in 3 and a bit mad-minutes of the first half to blow Everton away. BxBarracuda picked it, to earn himself a bonus point, as no-one else was game enough to go out on a limb and pick that sort of upset. The score was 0-3 at full-time, but no-one picked it, not even BxBarracuda! However, three players received a bonus point for picking a draw .. a gimme (BxBarracuda dg_dave and LeoDaVinci).
The FA pulled the bingo balls from the barrel yesterday and this is the draw for the semi-finals (both semis will be played at Wembley):

If Chelsea and Millway both lose, all four semi-finalists will be from the north of England.

The fairy tale story continues for Wigan Athletic. Earlier this month they made their second-ever quarter-final appearance (their first was 24 years ago in 1987). Their appearance in the semi-finals this weekend was their first and, having beaten Millwall, they will walk out onto the Wembley pitch for their first-ever FA Cup Final appearance on Saturday 5th May. No team has won the FA Cup and been relegated in the same season (Wigan are in the bottom three of the FAPL at the moment). Five teams have been relegated and played in the FA Cup Final over the last 100 years:
1915 Chelsea [2nd last] lost final 3-0 to Sheffield United.
1926 Manchester City [2nd last] lost final 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers.
1969 Leicester City [2nd last] lost 1-0 to Manchester City.
1983 Brighton & H Alb [last] drew 2-2 vs. Manch United, lost the replay 4-0.
1997 Middlesbrough [2nd last] lost final 2-0 to Chelsea.
Two winners of the FA Cup Final have scored six goals. No team has scored 5 goals, and four have been scored many times:
1890 6-1 Blackburn Rovers v Sheffield Wednesday
1903 6-0 Bury v Derby County

Apart from the leader and the tail-ender, BxBarracuda and toocool4u were the only players who retained their spot from the previous round. N-Bomb finished the season with a weekly win and climbed up to 6th place, his highest position all season.
