Peggy Lee, born Norma Egstrom on May 26, 1920, in Jamestown, N.D, died yesterday at age 81.

She was known for many wonderful songs - among them "I'm a Woman", "Pass Me By", "Lover", "Big Spender" and "The Way You Look Tonight." Her "Is That All There Is" won her a best contemporary female vocal Grammy in 1969.

Her sultry voice was the voice of the canine heard in Disney's "Lady and Tramp" song "He's A Tramp (But, I Love Him)."

She's survived by a daughter, 3 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ms. Lee is going to be missed by a lot of us.

What a shock! I still think that my heroes and heroines will live forever, but am continually disappointed when they don't. Remember Peggy Lee's "Fever?" She gave me fever. RIP, Peggy.

Agreed. As I'm in fjohn and ren's generation, I well remember her long and storied career. And 'Fever', who could forget it? It raised such a morality stink when she first performed it, the stupid moralizing in the press caused the song to make a whole helluva lot of money and become a pop icon. Although Peggy's style was strictly her own, she made one recall the styles of Marlene Dietrich and Edith Piaf. Much like Rosemary Clooney, too.

RIP indeed, Peggy. You made a great big mark in the book of life.

As I was in the jazz bands and "oldies" groups, I loved these singers, "Fever" is one of those songs that's not only hot with the lyrics, but the music itself and with her voice, you've got a potent mixture.

"Never know how much I love you, never know how much I care"

They showed a clip of one of her last appearances and her voice was still great. She was a class act.

Definitely a class act.

Now, I have "Fever" stuck in my mind! I'll be singing that all day!

She certainly was one-of-a-kind, and she will be greatly missed.

"Is That All There Is" is one of my favorite songs. Peggy Lee may be gone, but her voice will live on for us to enjoy.

Thank heavens for CDs!
