Don't know if anyone heard about this anywhere else, but five French young people died trampled to death while trying to enter a large party that was "organized" by some of those Rave people that go from place to place doing this in student towns. This was up in Brittany.
Normally, these things are being regulated and they are a real political bugaboo for some of the Left as the students vote and the regulations are said to be a threat to their civil liberties.
There are more and more deaths occuring from trampling, drug use, natural disasters (a storm broke out and trees fell on them), and more and more people are asking themselves if instead of fewer regulations, shouldn't they have more?
I know I've defended my old fogey views elsewhere, but I'm not against techno per say, simply a form of entertainment that cannot be enjoyed without consumption of drugs and alcohol.
Once or twice the drugs have been cut with other substances.

These parties are growing popular in France, the equivalent of those fraternity rushes or something in the States.

The organizers are being held responsible, but this cannot restore the young lives destroyed by this sort of event.

What a horrible, senseless tragedy.

Maybe if the organizers are held responsible for this, then this sort of thing won't happen in the future ... that's about the only good that can come out of this.

It is horrible that this had to happen.

In the U.S., we have raves as well and they have been quite popular for some time.

Those parties are pretty wild and I guess that is the attraction (or in my case, repulsion).

The drug use at raves is ridiculous. People who aren't into the partying vibe actually go to raves with drug kits in their attempt to try to save lives. People bring stuff like ecstasy to them and those people make sure that the drug is the real deal.

From what I've seen, law enforcement does try to control raves, however they seem to be having a tough time.

The "Medecins sans frontieres" are at every one of these parties but it's not enough. The drugs used are seen as recreational but the doctors are forced to actually examine them and warn people about the bad stuff!

What bothers me in particular is that the kids who went along for the ride so to speak, and it could have been any one of us during an experimental phase of life, right? Well they ended up dead because of stupid security problems like that.
Even if you've taught your children to make up their own minds and you let them go ahead and attend something like that and they don't try drugs, they are in a risk for their security.
How many times in your youth have you gone along to some sort of place you'd never have even dreamed of visiting, just to see what it's all about?
I went to a discotheque here in Europe at a work party with the younger staff just for laughs, I was stifling in there and I thought that if there were a fire, we'd all die like rats.
When I organized student parties for my job, we had to charge a bit more for the entrance as otherwise we'd have gone over the strict legal limit for 200 people in the club we'd rented. I should know, I was at the door as I was the only one who knew all the students by name and face.

We also arranged for a shuttle amongst all of our students so they'd get home safely.
Even with those precautions, we had some incidents. Scandinavians tearing off the door by its hinges, getting into fights, you name it.
I took my responsibility seriously and gently encouraged people to party without booze or drugs and for others to get off their backs if they chose not to drink!
Call me a goody two shoes, I get high on life not drugs.
