The horrors of 09/11 are being felt internationally in a dramatic way.
While the tragedy's affect on US airlines has been dramatic, its impact on foreign carriers is, in many cases, worse. The USA has several large carriers--United, American, Delta, US Airways, Northwest--that ahve had lay-offs and have cut flights. Some small European countries have only one flag carrier, sometimes supplemented by small feeder lines.
Since 09/11, consider the following:
Swissair, the Swiss flag carriers, has ceased operations, as has SABENA (the Belgian carrier). Alitalia (Italy), Aer Lingus (Ireland), KLM (the Netherlands) and SAS (Scandinavia) are feared to follow suit.
It appears that the 09/11 'attack on America' has had far=reaching international repercussions.
