I man was sucessfully prosecuted for posting anti-gay material in an Internet forum (it said chat room but it is more like this website). It is thought to be the first time a person has faced criminal charges for posting on a site like this.

He was fined £200 for contravening the Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 1972 by using the telephone system to send the message.

At first the ISP which is based in the UK (so perhaps the one I use) refused access to the person's personal details but after an application to the Data Protection Registrar in the UK, with the help of the police, the details of the computer were traced. The man had been in the house of a friend when he committed the offence.

I wonder if this is the start of a series of court cases?
