I agree with the jury's verdict.

I'm sorry SHE had to bear the whole brunt of a 2nd degree murder charge. I rather feel that she was just the one holding the leash at that time.
The jurors were not privy to much of the sensational press surrounding this couple over the last while...which is good, I suppose.
Their cold and callous attitude and the desperate antics of one of their counsel didn't help their case at all.

I was not disappointed yesterday as I watched the sentence come down.

If I were walking around with a weapon I knew to be faulty, with a hair trigger, and it just went "bang" one day and killed an innocent neighbour....I, too, would be guilty. The jury decided guilty of what.

I was pleased with the guilty verdict. I hope she gets the longest sentence possible, for she shows no remorse and seems completely callous to how her actions affect others. No conscience at all, the kind of person society needs to root out.

I am surprised these people were allowed to keep these dangerous animals in an apartment building. Why did it take the dogs killing someone before they were destroyed? If 30 people came forward to testify about being terrorized by the animals, why was nothing done about them?

If thirty people were willing to testify about that dog, then I'm certain that the dogs were problematic.
I've dealt with a vicious dog problem myself in my own building in Philly's suburbs. We had a dog policy when the apartments were converted, that said that any dogs owned by owners or tenants could stay, if they were a certain weight. No new dogs were to be allowed.
However, the former owner of the apartments let tenants into the apartments he owned in without paying fees or enforcing the rules.
One of his tenants had a vicious dog who was never on a leash, and ran free in our building. He even lived next to the laundry room which meant that no one could use it for fear of being attacked. She would leave the door ajar too!
I called the cops many times and they refused to come as it was a private apartment house.
It was a German shepherd mix.
The woman had a baby and the dog got worse. It came up to me and my child in the parking lot and growled at us, about a foot away. We were paralyzed with fear. The woman finally called it away.
One day I went down with the laundry, and there was the dog coming after me. I'd had it.
If I'd had a gun, I'd have probably have shot it and I'm not a violent person.
I screamed at the woman to get the dog and then to hold it tight. The neighbors all came out, I was their representative the condo board anyhow and I'd defended them for handicapped spaces and other issues.
I then said, "ok this is it. You've been warned, you don't even have the right to keep it under the regulations here, but I'm calling my lawyer.
I see you've had a baby, well congratulations, but your dog is getting worse and please do not leave the child near the dog, he is dangerous. Don't do it because of the lawyer but for your child."
She went back in.
I wrote to her landlord threatening him with the lawsuit, she left the apartment at the first of the next month.
I think the only way I got through to this woman, was through her child.
It is extremely difficult to deal with these problems and the dog owners are emotionally unable to deal with the dog's behavior.
I agree with this verdict.

One other story was my grandmother who was attacked in California when someone asked her to take a package to the neighbor's house. The dog just knocked her over and bit her, ripped off her glasses and broke a few fragile bones. If my grandmother had not been a Christian soul, I'm certain that the lady would have been sued.
The dog had already attacked three people before that!
It was a Great Dane I believe.

From what I can ascertain, the people had to be convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the people with the dogs were guilty of neglecting warnings of the danger of their animals.

I was terrorized by a dog when I was a baby, and I surmise that that is why I have had a life-long fear of dogs. If any dog ran free in my apartment building, barking or growling at me or my kids, I would be on the phone immediately, calling 911 and calling my landlord.

If the problem was not then resolved, I would be writing to everybody I could think of in authority in the city to take care of the problem. The unfortunate reality is that until somebody raises enough of a stink, problems like this just fester.

If another person came up to you and threatened you, that constitutes an assault and he/she can be criminally charged. Why is it not just as much of an assault if a dangerous dog threatens you?

I think a lot of the problem is the way people fawn over pets, like it is some great accomplishment to own a pet. The same thing happens with children, especially with babies. People make a big fuss over one's baby, and to a lesser extent, over one's pet. The fact is, we have way too many babies and way too many dogs in this world. We can all start working towards a healthier attitude by stopping this infernal fawning over babies and pets.

Personally, I much prefer to deal in the world of ideas rather than fritter my time away in idle conversation about babies and pets.
