So I hear that Le Pen got 17% of the vote, only losing to Chirac who had 19%. What happened to Jospin? I thought he was doing well?

in my french classes, we have been following the election over the last few weeks. my french teacher felt that jospin did not have enough charisma compared to the likes of chirac and le pen to win a high percentage of the votes.

also from reading le figaro and le monde via the internet, i read that jospin had 'u turned' on a some of the issues which he had put forward on his manifesto and also changed a few as the polls indicated his loss of popularity.

i just don't think he shone next to 'hot rabbit', who has far more charisma.

i'm sure bruyere will have something to say about this, but these are some of the issues that i had picked up in the french media (and from my teacher) in the run-up to the elections.
