This morning in the car, I heard a report on the BBC radio channel that a Scandinavian team had found that mothers of sons lived a bit less than mothers of daughters!
First they tell us not to eat carbohydrates and get cancer and now, not to have boys?

Can anyone substantiate this report? I couldn't find a link, but I was laughing pretty hard.
My first thing was all that yelling at boys to put that damn toilet seat down was quite an energy expenditure enough, but really? Why?

I have one of both.
I am not sure what they're basing it on though. Seems to me I had as many grey hairs from the girl as from the boy.
My girl climbed higher and got into more scrapes, how many babies do you know who climb into the sink at fifteen months and get the medicine cabinet open? No child cap could fool her, she pried them off! She used the assembly tools for shelves at two years old. I got tired of telling her no, and just taught her how to do it.
The boy drank out of the aquarium with a straw, and opened a varnish can his father left ajar, but he's a lot more calm.
Is it hormones? Ironing shirts or something?

Curious minds want to know!

Whew what a relief! Now how could they publish this as being applicable to today!?

It's a Finnish study carried out on Lapps.

Here's the link. Interesting but it does rather relate to the roles of other centures and not now.http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_1977000/1977758.stm

Now a days, taking a daughter shopping takes just as much out of you! Right mothers of daughters?

Bruyere,
I have to say that my 15 year old daughter is much more work then my 18 year old son ever was. They are two completely different personalities and to an extreme. Where my son is quiet and responsible and courteous to his elders. My daughter is mouthy and believes the world revolves around what she wants or needs. Don't get me wrong, I was very blessed with two very wonderful kids that don't do any drugs or drink or smoke even cigarettes. But my girl has been the bigger challenge by far and I still have at least 3 years to go with her [Eek!] [Eek!] [Big Grin]

Having said all that, Heather, they didn't need an academic study to come up with their conclusion - my mother has always said that I have taken years off her life (she'll be pleased it's official that it is only 34 weeks!) and made her old before her time [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

This is what I figured myself!
Oh yes, those of us who have one of both can tell the difference. The girl, "nobody likes me, the other girls are mean to me."
The boy plays with everyone. Couple fights.

One possible explanation...

As we get old many need to be cared for. Generally speaking daughters will do a lot more than sons - I know there are exceptions ! Women usually outlive their partners. If they need care a son will more likely put you in a home than a daughter. A daughter is more likely to visit etc. All these things will boost life expectancy.
