My tips today are what you can do with Olive Oil.

SHAVE. If you run out of shaving cream, slather on Olive Oil.

SLOW A DOG FROM SHEDDING. Pour one tablespoon Olive Oil on your dog's food while the dog is shedding.

CLEAN PEARLS. Rub a dab of Olive Oil over pearls, cleaning each pearl individually. Wipe dry with a chamois cloth.

POLISH LACQUERED METAL. Use a few drop of Olive Oil on a soft cloth.

RELIEVE A COUGH. Mix three to four tablesppons lemon juice, one cup honey, and one-half cup Olive Oil. heat for five minutes, then stir vigorously for two minuts. Take one teaspoon every two hours.

SOOTHE FROSTBITE. Warm some Olive Oil and gently dab on frostbitten skin.

RELIEVE A SCALDED THROAT. Take two teaspoon Olive Oil to coat and soothe the throat.

DRJUVENATE DRY SKIN. Lubricate with Olive Oil. (I like to use Olive Oil when I give massages, it seems to condition the skin)

CONDITION YOUR HAIR. Warm up Olive Oil,massage oil into your hair and scalp, wrap your head in a towel, and sit under a dryer. Later shampoo as usual. (I don't have a dryer so I use a hot wet towel that I get wet and put in the microwave)

RELIEVE JELLYFISH OR MAN-OF-WAR STINGS. (for all those surfers out there and divers too) Apply Olive Oil for immediate relief, then see medical attention.

SOOTHE AND EARACHE. Warm and insert a few drops Olive Oil into the affected ear, plug with cotton, and apply a hot bottle or washcloth.

RELIEVE BURSITIS. Heat Olive Oil and massage into the shoulder or upper arm daily.

REJUVENATE A PALM OR FERN PLANT. Add two tablespoon Olive Oil at the root of the plant once a month.

Great tips, Sandalwood!!!

I use olive oil and lemon to polish my furniture.

I usually buy a huge bottle of olive oil and then pour it into smaller bottles. In some of the bottles I put large chunks of fresh garlic in the bottle. I label the bottles and let them sit for a day or two, then I remove the garlic. I use it on all kinds of foods and salads. It comes handy when you are feeding guests and you don't want you hands to smell of garlic.

And cooking with olive oil is VERY good for your heart ---it promotes the levels of "good" cholesterol in the bloodstream.

Yes Chels, that is true. It is the carrier oil I use when I make my potions for clients who wish to lower their cholesterol levels and also for lowering blood sugar for diabetics. I bottle it mixed with specific essential oils and is used in the bath as well as a morning and evening body rub. Olive oil is soooooo good for you!

Nobody mentioned spaghetti sauce, or is that a given? I guess it's a given. Use only extra virgin oil -- no second or third pressings.

Hey Sandalwood,
I've been a diabetic for the majority of my life and I've never heard that Olive Oil lowers blood sugar levels.
Does it affect the diabetic's ability to recognise a hypoglycemic reaction? I tried one of those megachain blood sugar level decreasers and it lowered my level so much, so fast I passed out.

Hi GoldenRed, I use Olive oil as a carrier oil because it absorbs quickly and easily into the body through the skin. Not that it is a good oil in itself for lowering blood sugar levels.

You might want to try this potion, I have found that my clients find it helpful

This is a massage formula for the hands, legs and arms. You can also add about 8 drops to a bath.

10 drops Geranium oil
10 drops Ginger oil
10 drops Cypress oil

Dilute in 2 tablespoons Olive oil. There are several other oils that can be use, but I find this combo the best.

Also it is important to increase these herbs in you diet. Coriander; Helps normalize glucose levels. Cypress and dill; helps lower glucose levels by normalizing insulin levels and supporting pancreas function. Rosemary is also good for diabetes.

If you can't find these oils and really want to try this, e-mail me and I will see what I can do to help!!

Please be careful about anything that lowers your levels to fast. You know what it can do already!! Hugs!

Sometimes, I like bringing some of our old ones up, so we can revisit them and learn from them again! Here's a great one on Olive Oil.

Explain something to me, though. I've always heard about it promoting the "good" cholesterol. But, I don't understand. Does it actually do it itself, or is it simply that you're not using "bad" oil, and you're replacing it with something else? For instance (fat content and weight gain aside), if I were to eat more olive oil, does this in and of itself bring down my cholesterol levels? Or, is it just that I'm not eating Wesson oil anymore, so my chol. isn't rising? Does that make sense?
