You've posted in _exactly_ the right place. Now, let's see if we can get y'all some help! I'm surprised the dentists and doctors aren't any more help than that. Are they aware that what they've prescribed isn't lasting long-term? I assume they are, but I thought I'd ask. If not, make sure you tell them. This sounds a lot like what some of the kids get where I work. I'll check in the morning when I get to work to see if anyone knows a possible solution. As a very temporary solution, saltwater seems to work sometimes (I occasionally get "touthbrush ulcers" - those nasty things that happen when you accidentally jam your toothbrush into your gum.) Hopefully, you'll get other responses from people here who might be able to help.

wright, look at this site - http://members.aol.com/docdarren/med/candida.html#treatment. A lot of it isn't going to apply to him (I have serious doubts that he's taking birth control pills for instance!) And, some of it is candida within the gut, not the mouth. But, there might be some wisdom you can get from it anyway. Is it at all possible that he's just eating something that's allowing the yeast to proliferate, despite the treatments? I'll keep looking.

wright, by any chance, is your husband at all immunocompromised in some way (that's a personal question that you don't need to answer here - just answer it for yourself)? Sometimes, that may contribute to the continuing cycle of thrush. It's also something that your family doctor should (and most likely is already) be aware of. Just a thought.

(Once again for anyone who didn't see my "disclaimer" a while back! I'm not a doctor, nurse, or medical provider.) That said, has your husband been on Nystatin? That's a very common drug for that condition (I would venture to say one of the most prescribed ones). Did it not work? -------- I've also found this: "The following are things that can cause thrush to be a problem: 1.Taking antibiotics 2.Eating excess sugar 3.Alcohol 4.Allergy 5.Stress The following are things that many [people] have found help with thrush (none of which are a substitute for medical attention): 1.Eliminate excess sugar in diet 2.Eat garlic 3.Eat yogurt containing acidipholus 4.Apply yogurt containing acidophilus to those parts of the body that are bothered by yeast 5.Wash all [items that enter the mouth] in boiling water daily 6.Wash hands frequently"

Linda thanks! no one has ever mentioned the yogart...funny thing since women with recurrent yeast infections are told to eat plenty of it..Great thought(wish I had had that one) plus he"s a nail biter thus the rule for frequent washing of his hands would be real important..plus a good reason to quit biting those nails..Thanks again for your help...the yogart was really smart...Many Thanks..... My suggestion would be to gargle three times a day with Tea Tree oil in water. It will kill the virus ass.with this ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

Yea, wright!! Also, (ask your pharmacist) you might want to take the acidophilus (yogurt) pills, too. It's easy for you to pass the condition back and forth if you don't. If they're what I'm thinking of, those pills contain beneficial bacteria, so it won't hurt you to have it in your system (can also prevent yeast infections and colon problems). Also, if you take antibiotics for any reason, you will want to have the acidophilus in your body!!!! Trust me on this! Antibiotics are one of the number one causes of yeast infections in women - eating yogurt (or taking it in pill form) is a great way to prevent them. Sandalwood's suggestion of the tea tree oil is an excellent one, too. Tea tree oil is wonderful! Works for a lot of things!

I realize I'm a little late reading this but my daughter had a similar problem and it was found that she was allergic to celery. Also she is alleric to iodine so maybe you ought to check the diet. That is awful painful so good luck.I hope you find a remedy soon. ------------------

I use colloidal silver, this is natural cure all I've used it for infected teeth, a cut that was infected and just recently for an irritation in the mouth (mine was caused by eating too many salty pretzels), but it cleared it up. Colloidal silver has no taste and looks like water. I've heard of people using it for ear and sinus infections too, but have not had cause to do that. It has its roots in the pioneer days when people would put a silver dollar in their canteens to purify the water. I get it through a health supplement dealer I know, but I believe it is available at health stores like GNC, probably a pharmacist too. ------------------ A day in which nothing is learned, is wasted :)

Snowbird..I was also takeing the silver for a while. I have the cream also which works well on the skin for most anything. I could not stomach the silver anymore so I quit taking it. I tried mixing it with everything. My husband still talkes it in the morning. I now call it his poison. It is a wonderful product however and not many people know about it. ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

Thanks again to everyone.. you guys are great.. you are all such a helpful bunch!!the live acidopholus pills are working like a charm but we're also wondering if cheese could be a culprit.. the ulcers are gone now but it seems that after eating cheddar cheese he's still getting some tender spots.. good idea about the seafood..(iodine) we'll be watching for that too. THANKS AGAIN!!

I went through a phase about five years back when I got huge mouth ulcers practically all the time. I found that the dentist wasn't much help - as unless they were really serious (I thought mine were, I always had one or two) there wasn't anything that could be done. I found that bonjela gel worked for a while to numb the pain slightly (especially if you get a really arkward one at the inside front of your lower lip where your teeth always catch it - ouch), and taking ibuprofen if it was a really painful one. Ultimately though the phase lasted about a couple of years and then died down, although I still probably get a few more than the rest of the population. They come back if I get slightly run-down, or if I'm under a lot of stress. That seems to be the key trigger.

YIPPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! Wright, that's wonderful!!! I'm so glad he's gotten some relief - they must have been so, so awful. And, you were affected by having him feel bad. When someone you love hurts, you hurt, too. Wow! That's so cool (and you're so sweet with your kind words!)
