I've enjoyed reading everyone's hints and want to share the only two I've ever found. Of course, I'm probably the last to discover these but isn't it exciting when something suddenly comes to you and it actually works!
Ice Cream: Put a marshmellow in the bottom of the cone. It'll soak up the drips and helps prevent soggy 'gotta lick my hand now' messes.
Hot Water Bottles: Essential during Canada's winters and other times women appreciate. When filling from the kettle, lean the bottle against the corner of the stove (which is where I plug our kettle in). This expells air or prevents it getting in or something, so the hot water doesn't 'burp' up all over you and the floor.
Thanks for letting me share
Oh yeah, Someone mentioned cleaning up broken glass with bread - bread is also great for clumsy people in the kitchen (not mentioning any names but you can call me X)in soaking up oil spills. Doesn't spread it around like paper towels.
I'm on a roll - going to find if I can do anything with green furry leftovers fromt he back of the fridge.
Cheers

Donnar, those are great tips. I would have never thought of that. I do however put marshmallows on a cake with toothpicks when I have to travel with it. That prevents the top from getting messed up in the box. I also put a few around the sides to accomplish the same thing.

When I drop an egg on the floow, I pour a little salt on it and then put a slice of bread on top. I leave it there for a couple of seconds and then it is easier to pick up that drippy egg. Yuk

Neat egg trick. I know I miss my dog when I've been chasing egg around the kitchen. He'd eat anything except peanuts - but that didn't stop him begging for them. Someone mentioned using wet newspaper to pick up broken glass... I guess it's an old one, but a potato (or potatoe for Mr Quail) cut in half really gets broken glass from a light socket.
Cheers

Suggestion for the green furry leftovers at the back of the fridge - there HAS to be a new form of anti-biotic in there somewhere! (or a new form of alien life in the fridge I shared at Uni)

If you hold a piece of bread between your teeth, it keeps you from crying when you chop a fresh onion.

(Sob, sob) what am I doing wrong? I folded a piece of bread in half and bit down but I still cried! On the plus side, the bread hanging out of my mouth caught the tears so I didn't drip. Any other hints for chopping onions? I have had some success when I've popped the onion in the freezer for half an hour before attempting to peel it.

Hello Donnar, I soak the onion in ice water for a few minutes before cutting it up and it seems to work for me.

I remember trying that once, JoJo, and forgot all about them. When I remembered an hour or so later, the different layers just fell off. Worth trying again.
