WHAT HOUSEHOLD TASK DO YOU DESPISE THE MOST?
What a topic to start of the weekend with! This burning issue was examined by Gallup a while back, and I couldn't disagree more with the results. The top despised chore is washing dishes with 17% hating it. The runners up were cleaning the bathroom and ironing with 8.8% and 8.5%, respectively. Interestingly enough, 9.8% couldn't name a task they disliked. Why? Probably for the same reason I couldn't, they hate them all!

List the chore that you hate the most and we'll put our heads together and come up with some tips and tricks to make it go easier and faster.

How long a list can I post? I'll try to keep it down to a reasonable amount!

1) Dusting. I have a lot of wood in my place. Collects dust so, so easily. Plus, I have a lot of things on shelves that collect dust.

2) Emptying the litterbox. I don't know why - it's not that hard. And, it doesn't take that long. It's just icky.

3) Vacuuming. I hate having to unplug, replug, try to get under everything, etc.

4) Washing clothes. As I mentioned before, I don't have a washer or dryer.

5) Ironing. Actually, I enjoy it once I get going, it's just that I don't ever do it. It's just such a pain to get everything out of the closet, set it up, put Toto in the bedroom (don't want the iron accidentally falling on him or him to pull it off the board or anything), then let it cool off, put everything back away.

6) Hanging up clothes. My closet's too small, so everything gets crushed anyway. So, I hate the whole hanging up thing.

7) Mopping. I don't have much to mop - I think that's the problem. There's just enough that NEEDS mopping, but not enough to warrant getting everything out. I use bleach water, so then I have to let it dry. That takes a while. And, again, Toto's put into the bedroom, which doesn't make him happy.

8) Keeping everything "straight." Not only am I a "saver," but things just get tucked away places. I'm always scared that the piece of paper that I throw away today will be the first thing I need tomorrow - even if it's a year old!

9) Cleaning out the fridge.

There are more, but I'll stop for now! Basically, I just don't like cleaning. Which is weird, because I'm a "germ person." Like using the bleach on the floors - I don't like germs. So, my place isn't dirty. It's more like I have a problem keeping everything in its place. To be honest, I just think a bigger place might take care of a lot of the problem. But, then again. That's more to clean, so........!

I hate it all!!! Just not my thing.

Linda1--why don't you use the clumping kitty litter (like ScoopAway)? You never have to change the litter completely, you just remove the clumps daily. There is no odor, and the daily cleanup is fast and easy.

I think the worst chore is cleaning the oven! After it's clean I just don't want to cook in it and make it messy again!
Linda,a tip for you for dusting around things on shelves--I use a compressed air thing. Like thaey sell for keeping dust out of computers.
Cleaning? I'd rather be on line!!

Loath vacumming and ironing. Should be ironing at the moment but this (FT) is a much better alternative

Vacuuming I love minime! I do mine every day whether it needs it or not.
My ironing is piling up as I type my life away here. Is that another five business shirts on that pile.....?

I used to send my ironing out and have it done, it was such a luxury. Perhaps I'll do it again.

Emptying the dishwasher...I can't stand that so I traded that chore with my daughter. She empties the dishwasher and I vaccume the hall for her. She hates doing the hall for some reason. Next would be mirrors. We have two huge ones in out living room, and they are smoked glass. Harder to clean and not have streaks I think.

I hate all housework with a vengeance. Used to have a woman 'who did' for me, haven't got used to being without her, and that is after about 13 years - I am still expecting her to follow behind me clearing up the mess.

I watched a program on TV once in which a person said that dust only gets so thick, then it stops - I will agree with that observation.

To kid my ex-husband that I had been busy doing housework I used to polish the chrome kettle and all of the taps .... if a person has time to do those then they surely must have cleaned everything else in the house. I also used to spray the funiture polish in the air ....... then put the kettle on for a cup of coffee.

I do the cleaning the taps thing when I can't be bothered to clean anything properly! The sink can be filthy, but it looks much better if the taps are shining.

I don't do the furniture polish in the air trick any more (I used to when my mum made me do the dusting as a kid) - but lemon scented candles always make the place smell as if you've been cleaning!

.. just love doing the lawns, edges and mowing, and weeding the garden, turning on the sprinklers, a job well done, it's like another world out there in the sunshine with nature, green things and and all that, until the wife comes out and tells me that what I've just pulled out and thrown in the bin are not bloody weeds!

Ilush - they're everywhere in here! Keep reading the forum. You'll find tons of helpful hints to make things easier! For instance, look at Make It Shine (I think that's the thread title) or Cola or some of the others.

I'm not completely sure _anything_ is going to make it just a whole less awful. But, some of the tips might help ease it some!

Ilush, I've moved some examples up to the top of the list for you. For instance, look at "Cleaning Tip." Wonderful tips in that one for you to use!!

I've always hated ironing with a passion. Don't know why... and many friends say they find it relaxing. Anyway, now we're in a tiny apartment with the laundry in the bathroom so all clothes are taken straight from the dryer and hung up. Presto! No ironing required. Or, again with the tiny wardrobes, put crushed item you want to wear in the dryer while you take your shower and no wrinkles when you get out. The bathroom is another bugbear (if I can use such language) so I've filled a spray bottle with half bleach and half bathroom cleaner. Wow! Wish I'd thought of it sooner. Spray it all over and go on-line. When you go back, all black bits (that I've been scrubbing at since we got here with no results) have gone. All clean and smelling pretty good. That's only the ironing and bathroom.... I haven't even started on the rest. Just add your own moan, groan and that would cover it for me too. Love the hints and most of them really work. Thanks

My children are due home on Sunday evening, I have taken the day off work in order to clean the house a bit before they come home.

Daughter has phoned me and asked why I am home, I said that I was putting away the Christmas decorations ... she believes me!

I have just finished steaming the kitchen floor, trying to remove all the bloodstains from the vinyl Then there is the carpet in the lounge, don't have a white cat and a dark blue carpet, they don't mix too well - or should I say they do mix and I can't get the cat hair to part company with the carpet

I have washed the throw from the sofa, will leave it off until tomorrow or a cat will dirty it again

Time to do the stairs, do the washing then call it a day

I am off to England in the morning to hit the shops and bend the plastic Now will I manage to get an upgrade to Club Class?

Ooooh, I'm not going to the big smoke! I am going to Southampton so see my mum!

When there I am going to hit the shops. At Christmas I bought my mother a present from a shop in Southampton and due to problems with bad service I ended up with the shop giving me the present for free and some more money in the form of a credit to my account - I am going to spend it!! And as for my plastic, it is serious bending time!
