The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations will be the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa and will run between January 19 and February 10. It will be hosted by South Africa. Surprise defending Champion Zambia have been climbing up the world and zonal rankings. So that the tournament will not fall in the same years as the World Cup in the future this tournament normally run every two years is being run in back to back years. The following teams will be taking part (FIFA ranking, with Zonal ranking in brackets). • Côte d'Ivoire 14 (1) • Algeria 19 (2) • Mali 25 (3) • Ghana 30 (4) • Zambia 34 (5) • Tunisia 45 (8) • Nigeria 52 (10) • Cape Verde Islands 69 (15) • Togo 71 (16) • Morocco 74 (17) • Angola 84 (21) • South Africa 87 (23)...Host • Burkina Faso 89 (24) • Niger 105 (28) • Congo DR 107 (29) • Ethiopia 110 (31) 17 people played this FT comp last year with the podium led by gtho4, who was followed by George95 and BxBarracuda. There are 6 new teams this year. Joining hosts South Africa are Cape Verde Islands, Togo, Nigeria, Congo DR and Ethiopia, who all weren't in last years competition. There will 6 rounds of competition here with 8 points each round (including advance predictions in a few rounds). Bonus points of course for solo tips and perfect picks. In case people finish equal on points, they will be separated in the following order: 1. Hof vs Spoon differential 2. If still equal, person with more HoFs is placed higher 3. If still equal, person with more number of right tips (without bonus points) is placed higher 4. IF STILL EQUAL, I will place them on equal ranking on table and if they are on podium places, plead and convince gtho4 to award them both the podium Sign Up here if you are interested in a short, fun comp so I know you will there!

- The theme of round 1 was all about the ties, there were 5 in 8 games.
- Mali, Ivory Coast and Tunisia were the only winners this week.
- N-Bomb grabbed 2 solo points, ozzz took 1, KrivoyRog also had a solo bonus point, and paper_aero got a bonus point for picking the Congo DR upset of Ghana which ended in a tie.
- HoF was tied between Geroge95, LDV and N-Bomb with 4, paper_aero didn't hit with any of his upsets. N-Bomb takes a slim early lead off of his 2 solo pick bonus points.

- The wins outweighed the ties this week by a count of 5 to 3 and there was the first win for a team listed on the right side by Togo.
- Ivory Coast is the only team with 2 wins and host South Africa won it's first match of the tournament, while Ghana took control of their highly contested group by beating their toughest competition Mali.
- No bonus points his week as we increased our win total by nearly 20% to just over 50%.
- HoFs galore this week as 5 tipsters got 5 right, BxBarracuda, George95, who has gone back to back HoF, illiniman14, KrivoyRog and paper_aero were those 5. LeoDaVinci took the wooden spoon with 1 and that was the default score given to Sypher for this round. The top of the leaderboard is also crowded as N-Bomb is now joined by George95, ozzz2002 and KrivoyRog.

- The ties split with the wins this week, keeping the overall numbers square. There were 12 wins and 12 ties for the opening rounds of the tournament.
- The surprise group winner was 13th, of 16, ranked Burkina Faso, while 12th ranked South Africa also won their group, but that was less of a surprise because of them hosting this year’s tournament. Defending Champion Zambia was eliminated from Group C as they could only tie all their matches this year.
- Bonus points went to KrivoyRog and srini for the tie in the Morocco v South Africa game.
- HoF went to BxBarracuda this week with 6 and the 3 tippers who won the HoF in week 1 took the spoon this week. KrivoyRog held off BxBarracuda with his bonus point and holds the top of the leaderboard by himself this week.

- The 90 minute ties tied the wins this week, one of the ties was won in the first extra time and the second in penalty kicks. The odd fact of the weekend was the large amount of yellow cards given out, the Ghana v Cape Verde game had 3 yellows to each team, South Africa had 5 in their match versus Mali, who had 2 yellows, Ivory Coast ended up with 3 yellows and their opponent Nigeria 2, while Burkina Faso had 2 and Togo ended up with 6, half of which was in the extra period. Somehow there were no red cards.
- Host South Africa was bounced by Mali on penalty kicks and heavy favorite Ivory Coast was beaten by Nigeria 2-1. Ghana was backed by 2 goals from Wakaso and Burkina Faso continued their surprise run with a win over Togo in extra time.
- Wwe84 scored the only bonus point for the Nigeria win over Ivory Coast. Most of us had Ghana and Mali to make it to the Quarter-Finals, but none of us had Burkina Faso to do so.
- HoFs went to gtho, Howie and wwe with 5 right, while KrivoyRog took the spoon and lost the top position on the leaderboard to BxBarracuda for this round.

- We didn't fare well this week and hit under 35%, much of that due to going 2 for 24 on predicting the finalists.
- The chances of a Mali v Ghana rematch in the finals was ended quickly as Nigeria pounced on Mali scoring 3 goals in the first half and cruising to a 4-1 win. Ghana did as expected and scored early on Burkina Faso in the 13th minute, but went dry after that and also gave up an equalizer in the 60th minute and the underdog Burkina Faso team won the match in penalty kicks 3-2. The expected Ghana v Mali rematch did get set up, but in the 3rd place consolation game, not for the cup.
- Wwe84 and KrivoyRog were on bonus point fire, getting 2 each, both scoring bonus points for picking Nigeria to make the finals, wwe was the only one to pick Nigeria to lead at half and KrivoyRog, along with gtho4, were the only ones to pick the full time draw between Burkina Faso and Ghana..
- Back to back HoFs for wwe84, with 6 this week, have him flying up the leaderboard from 7th two weeks ago to 1st this week. Wooden Spoons for George95s and Howie72s with 1. Srini701 and gtho4 also flew up the leaderboard and are just off the podium by 1. BxBarracuda tumbled from the top to 3rd and the Wooder Spooners tumbled too, as well as N-Bomb who was default this week.

- We were missing 3 tippers this round, one of which hadn't returned since the first week and one of which was the podium leader. We tipped at a 40% success rate this round.
- Mali won round 2 vs Ghana and finished in 3rd place with a 3-1 victory, scoring the first 2 goals and sealing the deal in extra time. Nigeria are your 2013 African Cup of Nations champions, defeating Burkina Faso 1-0 with a goal from Mbah late in the first half. In this tournament anything can happen as the 7th ranked team in the competition defeated the 13th, of 16, ranked team for the title.
- Ozzz2002 & Howie72 earned bonus points for Mali scoring first in their match against Ghana. Even when wwe goes default he gets a bonus point in this compeition, this one for the advance pick of Nigeria to win it all.
- Ozz2002 takes the HoF with all 6 correct tips of the weekends games, missing only the advance pick of Nigeria. Gtho4 went bold and paid for it as he took the Spoon with no tips correct. I don't know if this has ever happened before but wwe84 has won the tournament, his first ever win, while going default for the round, KrivoyRog finished 2nd and ozzz2002 boosted himself into 3rd place for the last spot on the podium.
