I bought myself an iPad on Monday, great fun.

For when I travel I have been using a netbook and hate it with a vengeance, and apart from anything else it will not accept a battery charge so can only be used with mains electricity and I loath the thinkpad things so was also using a mouse, not exactly a convenient set-up in all. Now I can just use the iPad, no mouse needed, no mains cable.

It will be useful for keeping a back up of forthcoming appointments and I have already been using it from when I am sitting in my armchair as opposed to sitting at this computer.

I can see me getting a lot of use from the toy.

Traitor! You will be getting a Kindle next. Bah!

While Apple products are good, I can't see spending that much more for other things that do the same thing. If I were to do something like that, I'd likely go with the Samsung Galaxy tablet. I have the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, and have had great products from them. My last three phones (this one included) have been Samsungs, and all of them lasted longer than the standard average of a phone.

I had great fun playing with my sister's ipad last December, and while before I wasn't in the least interested in owning one, ever since it's been teasing the edges of my conscience and I suspect I will succomb before the year is out.

I have the first generation original iPad. I don 't have access to a regular computer very often so all my FunTrivia is on the iPad. The only complaint I have is that you can't do Flash quizzes on it, so some of the new badgelets aren't available. Have fun!

Did you know there is a Kindle app (free) that you can put on your iPad? There are so many free books (classics) that you can download.. and if you don't like the app, you merely delete it! It's one way of taking your books with you while you travel

I didn't know that, then I don't understand Apps really, if I want to check the local news I use the normal browser for it.

I'm sure you'll soon get to know the ins and outs your iPad Sue. Mrs TW/Lynda loves hers. I never thought she would get interested in games but has quite a few 'hidden object' adventure games installed. The screen has great definition for that type of thing. The Kindle and Skype apps are installed as well.

I don't know if you will find the same but using the touch screen with a stylus (like a pen) can sometimes be better than using the fingers.

I have just downloaded a few free books to read at some stage, I guess that I might download a few more but won't actually buy any of them, I much prefer paper.

I must try to find the Kindle app then I can perhaps get some of their freebies too.

Now I DO like Hidden object games, so I am perking up the ears at that. Hmmm, all may not be lost.

The Kindle app for the iPad looks good to me. The pages appear like an open book. It even has a contoured line down the middle where the pages join and turn over. Gives it a realistic look. Turn the pages like a book too by just dragging the finger across the screen from right to left.

I like to play hidden object games sometimes. Lynda gets hers from the Apple App Store. I use one of the online game sites for downloading them to the PC. Many are quite inexpensive.

Edit: I'm told that the Kindle app has just been updated and it no longer looks/works as described. Just a pair of pages now without the mentioned 'realistic' look.

These come from no mere idle curiosity. I face a TV access dilemna myself since our community's cable contract ends in a month and all the options are available to me. I am trying to plow through all the alternatives to make an informed decision.

No connection, I didn't buy the enhanced TV reception box but might at a future date, most likely when I replace my television set

I can use it at any time but if I exceed my usage between 8am and midnight then I pay for the addtional use. I can use unlimited between midnight and 8am so if I want to watch 'catch-up' television I normally do it at midnight.

I have no idea what that is. I do have BBC and ITV catchup/players so can watch those if I want - see above.

Here is a cute story about my iPad. My daughter gets out of school at 2:30. I work there so we leave at the same time. I usually wait for her in the lobby and play a game while waiting for 10 minutes or so. The other day, the 1st grade class came by and one the boys says, "Is that a tablet." I said yes, it's my iPad. He then asked if I had some games on it. I again said yes. He asked, " who plays them.". I told him that I did. These children know me as the library lady and his eyes got so big when I told him it was my iPad and I play games on it and I also have a Wii and an XBox360! He didn't believe that such an "old" person as me would be playing games!

What staggered me at Christmas was watching my 2 year old granddaughter playing games on one, fair whizzing she was!

I even 'took out' a book from the local library via my iPhone through my Amazon account and read it on the Kindle app!

Hulu is a place you can watch some TV shows online. I've watched several 1960's episodes of Dragnet on Hulu, and for most shows, it's free!
