The "drink eight glasses a day" water rule is actually the minimum needed for vital life processes, like blood pressure and temperature regulation. In fact, the amount of water you need is based on your activity level, weight, and climate. Here's how to determine how much water your body really needs:
Divide your weight in pounds by two - that's the minimum number of fluid ounces the body needs each day. For example, a 150-pound person would need 75 ounces, or about
9.5 glasses of fluid. And if you are active and/or live in a warmer climate, you should up your intake by a few glasses.
Water can be consumed in the form of fruit juices, caffeine free soft drinks, milk, lemonade, and soup. But caffeinated
and alcoholic drinks increase fluid loss, and are poor choices for hydration.
A great way to meet your fluid requirement is to keep a water bottle handy at the office, home and car. A beauty bonus: Water is terrific for healthy-looking skin!
