Is there a way to get rid of cold sores on your lips? Whenever I get them, they get really annoying. If their isn't a way to get rid of them, is their a way to at least lower the pain intensity? Thanks

Poor BOyScout They sure can hurt can't they? A pharmicist recommended Zovirax and that is what I have been using ever since. I brought up another thread on cold sores for you to get some more tips as well. I hope they go away fast for you.

I get them two times every year, usually right at the start of summer and winter.

Lysine has always taken care of them for me.

Zovirax is wonderful. My Mom also starts taking Lactinex when she first feels them come on (you have to ask the pharmacist for them - they have to be refrigerated, so he/she has them in their area). Lactinex balances the intestinal flora, so it is also is good when you have diarrhea.

My cousin's son gets them regularly. He takes Acyclovir at the first sign of them. Says it works wonders.

If you don't have to go anywhere, put toothpaste on it.

Well, I had the cold sore BEFORE I posted this thread. That might of been the trick. I usually can live half of my life with them but it was REALLY getting annoying.

We should start a club for sufferers. Not fun at all and very painful at times. I think I put this on the other thread but I use some over the counter cream - Blistex, or something. What really works for me is dabbing hubby's aftershave on. That really dries it out and then I squeeze juice from an aloe vera plant on it. The cold sore goes in double quick time.

cruella, the worse breakout I ever had was at Cristmas time and I must of had three of them at once and my goodness was it painful.

Jabber go buy some Zovirax. Exposure to the sun without anything to protect your lips is one sure way of getting a cold sore. I try to keep vaseline or chapstick on my lips at all times now.

Oh my goodness . . . one cold sore is too painful, I wonder how many three feel like. (Not THAT curious.) But look on the bright side . . . they are all on one side of the lip. At least you can eat food on the other side.

Zovirax needs a prescription I found out. hmph
had to wait until after work, to go to a walk in clinic and obtain a subscription.
He prescribed Zovirax OR some other, and I got the other. Only difference was the other is twice a day, and Zovirax is 5 times.
I didn;t realize they were pills. I kinda figured salve.
oh, and I was wrong about having 3, turns out it is more like 4. This is an exceptionally bad case for me, and these pills should get rid of them after 5-7 days. ugh, that's a long time.
Gonna have some pills ready for the next time, and catch them before they develop. (which is the charm of these pills.)
They sure aren't cheap! $45 for 10 pills. Good thing I am covered at work, so I only had to fork out $20 (deductable). When I refill they should be free.
Mind you, if they work, than they are worth every penny.
I never realized a long sunny day could cause such a flare up. *makes mental note*
Gotta have some blistex/chap stick/lip balm on me, next time I foresee a long sunny day.
Dr. recommended anything with sunblocking properties. SP15.
Smiling is not an otion this week for me. (makes the bloody things hurt more)
only "smilies"

Thanks to funtrivia for providing me with this great info about these drugs! It hadn't occured to me that such a thing existed before today.
Thanks guys
