What are some "home remedies" that sound kind of odd, but you'd swear by them?

I was watching a talk show where they featured the book The People's Pharmacy (which sounds excellent). Some of the audience members were giving some of the home remedies that they've found to work really well.

For instance, one lady said she swears by egg whites for diaper rash. A man says that, when he gets the hiccups, chocolate ice cream always takes them away.

Whenever I feel sick at night (nauseated or stomachaches), I swear sleeping with a washcloth or towel over my pillow makes me feel much better. It really takes away any kind of nausea. I don't know why, but it always has for me. I don't know if it's the softness of the towel or the clean smell or what. All I know is that it works.

What strange, but true, tricks do you know?

If your child gets car sick, put a penny on their belly button and it should keep them from getting motion sickness. It has something to do with the copper, but I can't remember what it is about the copper that makes this little trick work.

I saw this one on TV and I swear it works. After a big Thanksgiving dinner, I felt so full I didn't want to move. I started rubbing my tummy in a clockwise motion and then rubbed my legs from the top to my knees in a toward motion and it really helped me to digest my food.

LOL yes Jo..actually on the upper left hand thigh is a nerve that will help digest food.

I know that if I have eaten to much..A slice of lemon will help the food digest.

I will have to think for a bit on some of the others that I have heard and may have used.

Put a stick of chaulk in your good silverware box. The box will absorb the moisture and in turn you will not have to polish your silverware nearly as often. I swear it works!
