1. gtho4 2. Howie72 3. ozzz2002
*- Howie72 wins the tiebreaker as ozzz2002’s 5th golfer (Darren Clarke) withdrew
For the second consecutive year, the Masters were decided via a playoff, as Adam Scott birdied the 72nd hole to take a 1-stroke lead, only to be followed by Angel Cabrera in the final group just minutes later with a birdie of his own. Last year it took two holes for Bubba Watson to take out Louis Oosthuizen, as well as Cabrera’s previous Masters win in 2009. This year, it was the same story with different results, as Cabrera missed his birdie putt by a matter of inches (if that), and Scott drained his own. This was the first Masters victory for any Australian player.
And why not keep up with the Aussie success? gtho4 takes home his own version of the green jacket with a victory here! He became the first winner to not choose a golfer in the top 2 spots of the tournament, although he did have Aussie Jason Day, who finished third. Howie72 and ozzz2002 tied 3 shots back despite taking 5 different golfers, and Howie72 wins the tiebreaker as he had Graeme McDowell as his 5th golfer, while ozzz2002 had Darren Clarke, who withdrew before the tournament due to a hamstring injury.
The final round saw its share of golfers in contention. Brandt Snedeker was tied with Cabrera at the end of the third round, but slowly faded on the back nine with 4 bogeys and only 1 birdie to finish tied for sixth. Marc Leishman started the day 2 strokes back, and though he played even par the last day, the top 2 simply made more shots. Jason Day was right in the running tied for the lead after 15, but bogeys on 16 and 17 left him 2 strokes back at the end of the tournament.
Two storylines around after the second round both involved players getting penalties. Tiger Woods hit a ball in the water on #15 during the second round, and took a drop several feet away, while the drop rule states a player must drop as close as possible to the previous spot. A viewer called in to Augusta, and he was assessed a 2-stroke penalty thanks to a new rule for just this circumstance that prevented him from being disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.
The other player was 14-year-old Tianlang Guan, the youngest player to ever player at the Masters. After two previous warning, he was assessed a 1-stroke penalty for slow play towards the end of the second round, moving his final score from +3 to +4. Luckily, the cut line was +4 and he barely made it to the weekend, where he finished as the low amateur in 58th place.
Only one tipper picked winner Adam Scott, but that wasn’t enough for LeoDaVinci to snag a spot on the podium. It was a different story for Howie72, as he was the only one of us to take playoff loser Angel Cabrera, and finished second.
With that, we say goodbye to Augusta National for another year, and now look ahead to US Open at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania in mid-June.

Nice work, mate, and nice to see an Aussie with the green jacket! Congrats to Gt and Howie, too.
