I'm looking to buy a new camera. I don't want anything fancy because my mother is going to use it and she's "Technologicly Challenge." So, I'm basicly going to need something that's not to bulky to handle and basicly a "point and shoot." I was thinking about getting something with a zoom on it, though. The two of us are going to Sea World of Ohio in October to participate in a Dolphin Interaction Program where you actually get to swim with the dolphins. Needless to say, I definately want a camera to document this experience.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments about cameras, I'm more that willing to listen to them.

Hi Splatt! There are lots of cameras out there now that do all the work for you..All you have to do is push the button!! Check some of them out at your local stores!

That is so neat that you get to have the experience of swimming with dolfins..I have always wanted to do that also..And yes please let us hear all about it!!

My mom bought a Samsung camera with a zoom lens just before she went on vacation this year and came back with excellent pictures. It's a point and shoot camera that is small enough to fit in your pocket.

My brother has an Elph and it's really cool, it even takes those panoramic shots.

But like Sandlewood said there are lots of good cameras out there and the prices are reasonable. I guess it just depends on the features you want.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I'm waiting to Sunday when all the circulars come out to get some more ideas.

And, I promise I'll tell you all about my swim with the dolphins.

If she's as technologically challenged as my mother is then I'd consider getting an APS camera (not sure what they're called in other parts of the world). They're easier to load film into and have a safety catch that stops you opening the film door before the film's rewound - so you don't ruin all those precious holiday snaps (like a certain mother did with 3 separate rolls of film).

Zoom lenses do give you a bit more flexibility about the pictures you take - I've got a little Fuji zoom APS compact that lives in my handbag, which I keep for happy snaps (or taking to the pub on an evening) - rather than risking my very expensive "proper camera" gear.

My fuji one is a point, wibble to zoom, and shoot thing. ALternatively, you could buy a waterproof camera (various companies do them) and actually take it into the water with you. A colleague from work went to swim with the dolphins and says it was absoutely amazing!

For water shots you might consider a water-proof disposable. They come in panoramic too! They take great pictures too!!
