The scoring system for the Kentucky Derby comp is the same as the Grand National comp earlier this month: RULES o The rules for this comp are simple, and are the same as last year and the year before. o Pick 10 horses in the order you think they'll finish, 1st to 10th. o Points: for any horse out of the 10 you've picked, which finishes in the first five places: 1st : 10 pts 2nd : 6 pts 3rd : 3 pts 4th : 2 pts 5th : 1 pt o The order of your picks will be used as a tiebreaker to separate any dead-heats or ties. o If two players have identical picks x10, whoever posts first wins the tie-breaker. DEADLINE Saturday 4th May 2013 at 6:24pm. There is a count-down clock to the race start time on this webpage, near the top RH corner : espn.go.com/kentuckyderbyclock. The following six pages (of many out there) have details of the contenders and their form: horseracing.com bloodhorse.com www.chiff.com horse-races.net racingnation.com downthestretch.com The field of 20 runners and their post positions (barrier draw) will be announced three days before the race at around 5:00pm ET on Wednesday 1st May. Picks x10 can be posted at any time in this thread, even if the field has not been announced! Please do not pick reserves. we have a newbie .. we've roped in another runner. Welcome aboard gracious1!
ozzz2002 picked 1st and 2nd (plus 4th) across the line to take the gold medal .. he was the only player who picked the outsider Golden Soul in 2nd place.
countbacks were required for every position except the winner and the wooden spoon.
five players dead-heated for 2nd place.
both N-Bomb and illiniman14 had their first two correct picks (Orb and Revolutionary) as their 1st and 4th choice .. N-Bomb collected silver as he had Normandy Invasion as his 5th pick on his list vs. illiniman14 had it as his 6th pick.
George95 and paper_aero had their three scoring picks in identical position in their lists .. the tie-breaker had to go further, to the 7th horse (neither of them had the 6th horse across the line in their picks). George95 had the seventh horse (Lines of Battle) as #3 in his list vs. paper_aero who had it as #10 on his list, to claim 8th spot.
this was the 11th running of the Kentucky Derby comp .. no-one has defended their title, and buck5ley is the only person to have won this twice (2005 and 2007).
the defending title-holder was George95.
N-Bomb won silver last year and silver this year.
everyone collected points, unlike the Grand National last month, where 4 players score zilch.
that completes two of the three legs in the FT Triple Crown. The 3rd leg is the Melbourne Cup in the first week of November.
