I read this with a combination of pride in their actions, and shock and disgust that it was necessary in 2013.
I was discussing the original Star Trek with my daughter a few days ago, and how ground-breaking it had been in so many ways that are now seen as ordinary. Including the first inter-racial kiss on television. We all still have a long way to go it seems.

I have to think the rurality of the area has something to do with this group not moving forward with the rest of the world. I also must think this group doesn't have a lot of social contact with the rest of the state, or world, as well to be so horribly far behind. All small pockets like this, wherever they may be, that haven't moved forward need to be found out and brought into the modern light.

I guarantee you this is far from the norm
