Helen Mirren's name is being bandied around, but then so is Simon Cowell as rank outsider, lol! I hope someone fresh puts their own mark on the character. I also hope the writers get their brain into gear as some of the last series was a bit if a let down.

I'd like to see the lovely Jenny Agutter in the role!

I think that was a red herring. I can't see anyone like John Hurt taking it on full time. Given that whoever it is needs to be able to devote about eight months of the year to it anyone really well known and in demand isn't going to be able to, or probably even want to, devote that sort of time to it.

I'd rather it was someone not too well known anyway. If you already associate them with other roles then it becomes harder to suspend belieft. Wonder if there will be a change of companion as well.

Yes if John Hurt took it on, you'd always be waiting for the little Alien to burst out of him, maybe not such a good idea, or maybe that's how they could do the regeneration this time, it would make a change.

I'm a fan of Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, but I think that Matt Smith has been the best since his tenure.

I liked Jon Pertwee as well. I have to go for David Tennant as my favourite "new" doctor. I thought he was superb.

David Tennant has been my favourite as well. I used to enjoy the old series but spent most of my time hiding behind a cushion to notice too much about the doctors. I found it much scarier then, than today. Apart from the Weeping Angels that is :-)

Howzabout Max Headroom and a Holographic Doctor? The Hologram could be a safety iteration that kicks in when there's a decided indecision on the manifestation of the next Doctor.

We have a girl working for us at the moment who is a big Whovian. She said she would scratch her eyes out if Beiber got it. LOL She's happy to accept a female, gay, black or fat Doctor .. but not Beiber. Ever.

I am pretty ambivalent but the best suggestion I have seen is Hugh Laurie ... I think he's probably be too big for it now but he would be my pick.

Which would have the added advantage of giving us the answer to at least one age-old question:

Many people would love to see Hugh Laurie as the Doctor. My personal number 1 choice is Hugo Weaving, but he is also too famous, I believe.

Hugh Laurie would make a fantastic Doctor. As would many others that I would love to see (Stephen Fry, for instance; intelligent and witty, but all the running might be a bit problematic). All I would like to see is an older actor than Tennant and Smith. Early to mid 40s, perhaps. Relatively unknown. A female Doctor would probably change the dynamic of the show too much. Even though it could happen lore-wise, it would perhaps take away some of the gravitas that the Doctor has accumulated over his 50-year (or ~1000 Time Lord years) career thus far.

I have faith in the Moff. He hasn't let me down yet.

I'm not saying they can't have it; I'm saying it would probably not show as much as the Doctor.

In all seriousness, I'd be happy with nearly any of these. Ben Whishaw might work, he was good in Skyfall.
