On the subject (as we appear to be) of people doing favours and good turns, so what kind deeds has someone has done for you?
I used to have wonderful neighbours. Just before we moved to that house we received a visit from them at our old house, they had found out where we lived. At the time that we were to be moving into our new house I would be almost nine months pregnant, I also had a little girl of nineteen months.
They asked when we were to be moving in then asked what we would like for dinner, they wanted to prepare a meal for us so that I wouldn't have to cook. On the day they brought the cooked food to our house then joined us in champagne - then left us to enjoy our dinner.
During conversation they realised that we would be having a problem with our electricity and water supply for a few days - and the toddler was still in nappies (diapers to you). She (Margaret) demanded that I give her the pail of dirty nappies, took them home and brought them back washed and dried. She also did all of the rest of my washing.
Some years later during some really cold weather our pipes froze and we were without water, they offered the use of their shower and supplied us with as much water as we needed.
People such as them do not happen too often, I nominated Maragaret for a good neighbour award from our local radio station - the little bit of publicity was pleasant for her, as was the champagne prize.
I much appreciated Maragaret and she knew it, hopefully I was also a good neighbour to her too.
