People have long opined that Chammel 9 runs cricket in Australia, and just another incident has popped its head up to lend weight to this.
9 has decided that "Hot spot" isn't going to be used in this coming international summer. They are citing the problems that arose with it in the northern Summer make it less than ideal as a DRS tool, but everyone knows that the real reason that they are dropping it is because it is costing them $10,000 per day to use the technology. Over 5 x 5-day Tests, that's $250,000, and with the extra money that they paid to retain the broadcast rights only a few months ago, they need to cut back where they can.
For mine, the continued refusal to use "Snickometer" is ludicrous, as it has proven to be far more accurate than hot spot anyway! We will now be forced to rely on Hawkeye, turned-up stump cam, and (shock-horror!) the umpires' own ability!
