Wimbledon 2013Apologies for the short notice but it's almost time for the third leg of the FT tennis comps with the beginning of the Wimbledon at the All-England Club. Will ozzz2002 and BxBarracuda defend their men's and women's titles, respectively, or will we see a new face atop the podium? I'm sure ozzz2002 would love to retain his. Come one, come all, and tip your way through Wimbledon! Tips must be in by commencement of the second round. Scoring will be the same as the one used for the French Open, the US Open, and the Australian Open: 5 pts x 1 : picking the winner. 3 pts x 2 : picking a semi-final winner (picking a finalist). 2 pts x 4 : picking a quarter-final winner (picking a semi-finalist). 1 pts x 8 : picking a quarter-finalist. Additionally, sign up and you will get bonus points for the seeding of your correct picks. You may also get these bonus points if you don't sign up, but, banter is so much more rewarding than points.

Paire & Youzhny also?
Sometimes it scares how we can see the same surprise picks that no one else sees from the field ozzz.
2nd round has started for both brackets. We are either both far-seeing geniuses, or total blockheads...

You bet Paire and Youzhny in Wimbledon Quarters? You guys could probably have made millions if you bet on these 2 in a real world Our brackets here all going for a huge toss with so many seeded players dropping out ...should make for a very interesting comp this year

- This has to be some sort of a crazy record in our tipping comps here! The winning score in our comp is all of 14.5% of the perfect pick score!!
- George95 wins the Wimbledon 2013 women's competition with 4 right tips (out of 15) and a a score of 39 out of a possible 268! That's the same score as paper_aero and the tie-breaker was what clinched it for him. George had a tie-break of +1 while paper had a +5 tie-breaker score!
- The tie-breaker also decided the next 3 places as well and Dizart with a "perfect" tie-break gets the bronze medal ahead of N-Bomb (+4) and illiniman14 (+8)
- wwe84 avoided a golden duck by managing to pick 1 quarterfinalist
 - We had a full complement of picks including Klara Zakopalova, Dominika Cibulkova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Monica Barthel and Navarro (who?) but NOT ONE OF US picked 3 of the semi-finalists (Sabine Lisicki, Marion Bartoli or Kirsten Flipkens)...the fact that these 3 ladies were in the same quarters as "hot" favourites Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova probably had a lotttt to do with our picks
 - In the craziest Wimbledon in many, many years, Marion Bartoli, the 15th seed from France won her maiden Grand Slam title without dropping a single set! Sabine Lisicki, the 23rd seed German took out the defending French Open champion from Wimbledon for the 4th time in a row she played here (Kuznetsova in 2009, Na Li in 2011, Maria Sharapova in 2012 and now Serena Williams) but allowed her nerves to get the better of her in the final

The men's results will be posted tomorrow, so keep your comments coming in till then and a really "well done" to George95, paper_aero and Dizart for finishing tops in a most bizarre comp

Totally ridiculous! They should swab the lot of them. One or two longshots is standard, but with only three seeds below 15 making the semis, it makes it awfully hard to pick well. Hearty congratulations to George95, paper_aero and Dizart.

I was also the 15 seed going in to this 11-man competition...
Well done to paper_aero and Dizart. I might as well send congratulations to wwe84 for his performance. Good job srini for all the numbers.

- After 77 long years, on 7/7, Wimbledon FINALLY has a British winner! "Sir" Andrew Murray (surely he will be knighted now?) is the new King of Grass after doing what the last British superstar Tim Henman and his own coach Ivan Lendl could not do in their careers. He only struggled against the left-handed Verdasco in the quarters, and was an emphatic winner in the final against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. It was also Murray's 7th Grand Slam final!
- Roger Federer finally failed to reach the quarters of a Grand Slam after a record 37 straight appearances in the last 8 stage.
- With the top 2 players in the world reaching the finals, the men's section of Wimbledon was not as bad or tumultous as the women's this year and we did fairly well in our comp too.
- gtho4 was the ONLY one of us to tip Murray to win it all, and for that sterling confidence in Murray, he wins his second Grand Slam Men's title of the year (after the Australian Open). He once again pipped srini701 to the title (this time by 2 points).
- N-Bomb was a clear winner for the bronze, while a tie-break was required to separate paper_aero and George95 again (they were tied in the women's section too)
- BxBarracuda takes the basement for this year after some of his radical tips like Youzhny and Benoit Paire (who???) fell in round 4.
Congratulations to gtho4 and on to the US open then where srini701 will hope to be 3rd time lucky against him
