If her description is changed then I shall ask for his to be changed also "Clint Eastwood - actor, director, and long term partner of Sondra Locke". Describing women in terms of the men they used to know is so 1955!

No offense to Miss Locke, but I dare say few would remember her otherwise. I'd be fine with something similar for Larry Fortensky (8th husband of Elizabeth Taylor, counting Richard Burton twice) or Guy Ritchie (Madonna's 2nd husband), names few would know if not for their association with much more famous women.

I will be changing her entry, if at all, to include something about her career, not her personal life (unless to include the 6 films she made with Clint Eastwood). She also had an Oscar nomination in 1968. I need to take the time to sort out 100 characters or less, so it won't be done immediately, but she is on my list.

Gregory Blaxland - Australian pioneer farmer; explorer

He was born in 1778 in Kent, England and sailed to Australia in 1805. He should at least be referred to as "British born-Australian".

Thanks

The algorithm does not mind mixing men and women - it happens regularly, although most groups are single-sex.

I would miss on who is Pat Jennings, but I can see how the name Pat would be a name that could show up in a male or female setting.

Also I must admit that there have been a few too many times in Who Am I that I have picked the only female/male and been horribly wrong.

I have pointed out before that the names are not always of the same gender - sometimes that is a clue to help you if you don't recognize the names, along with the nationality and occupation. (I noted yesterday that the lowest-correct percentages at the moment are for people whose names are from a different country than the one where they were born, so people clearly use their expectation of association between names and countries when they have no idea.)

Frankly, LT, I'd like to ban all Australian swimmers/sailors/Olympians with Latvian/Estonian/Hungarian/Turkish/Chinese/Anglo names.and.esp.the.ones.with.titles, all the Poles and Ukrainians playing American and Canadian football not to mention ice hockey, all the Norwegian.skiers.who.were.on.a.stamp, and every single soccer player because I don't like it. Oh and Belgians - because they could be French or Dutch and it's not fair. Thanks. grin

Flopsy, what people from Switzerland? Those names could be Italian, French, or German. wink

As for the above post mentioning Ethel Payne as being the only female in the list, I don't know who Chay Blyth is so that name to me could be male or female.

That's true, Mira Jane - the Swiss should be banned forthwith. They make nice chocolate but they're always up to no good with other people's money so that should disqualify them.

You don't know who Chay Blyth is? shocked First man to sail single-handed the wrong way round the world, that's who he is. He rowed across the Atlantic too, before it was fashionable. They got a head start using the breeze that came from fifty million Brits saying "why?" in unison only to almost be capsized by three hundred million Americans saying "What? Get out of here". wink

I think the entry originally just used the Wikipedia article on her, as many seem to have done. It describes her as British-Iranian (and I'll bet that a lot more players guess her with that description than if it were changed to British), and tries to include the mixed-national parents without going over the letter limit for descriptions. Then it got awkwardly modified when somebody complained about the accuracy of that description.

I'll see if I can come up with something a bit less awkward to try and convey that, along with the fact that she was born in London, but raised in Iran, and finished her secondary education in the UK, before moving to the US for her university studies. Some cosmopolitan people are pretty hard to describe in this game.
