Billy Mitchell

Your answer: American Air Force General; known as 'Father of the US Air Force'

He should be listed as an Army General, not Air Force. He was in the Army...but was "appointed deputy director of the Air Service". He is known as the father, but never was in the actual "Air Force" just the precursor, the Army Air Service.

1. English Baptist minister; founder of the Thomas Cook travel agents

Your answer: Thomas Cook

I do think this answer is a little bit too much of a giveaway having the full unadjusted name in the clue - using eponymous as a hint or stating it's a British company would still make it pretty guessable without being a total freebie.

2. German physicist; mathematician; helped develope quantum mechanics

Your answer: Max Born

'Develope', whilst not semantically incorrect, is an archaic form of the word and is probably better without the extra 'e'.

This is not particularly wrong, but I am a bit surprised that Mary Pickford is not noted as being America's sweetheart.

Barbadian cricket all-rounder; captain of West Indies 1965-1972; named National Hero of Barbados 199

Is there a part of the year missing or was he named number 199 in a list of perhaps 500?

Who Am I for me today, 11 Brits, 2 Germans, 2 Americans. Needless to say, not my best day. At least, this day, I knew the 2 Americans!

Wow, I haven't seen any of those for ages, and thought they had all been eliminated. You scored a hat trick!

I thought you might be bored and need even more to do... I was surprised to see them because I know you've removed most of the problems. These are all new to me.

A couple more from my set today:

Singer with the Everly Brothers - for Don Everly

Roman god - Jupiter

I'd like to see the Everlys left in - maybe something like 'American singer who performed as a duo with his brother Phil'.

Those definitions with the name or initials included are not deleted, just rewritten to remove the total giveaway. I'll update these when I get back from running the dogs, making up the horse's foods for the week, and stocking the fridge for the week.

I was just thinking it would be really funny (if executed well -- maybe like as an April Fool's prank) if the "Who Am I?" names/descriptions were based on the famous "Who's on First?" sketch. Imagine all the confusion you could cause!

In the "Minor Issues" thread ( http://www.funtrivia.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/1114543/20 ) Terry said in post 1113602 that he changed the difficulty settings of the two Who Am I? levels. I wonder if this has to do with a lot of 'simple' WAI?s (initials, names, relationships, etc) that are now showing up. Did they exist in a database that L_T didn't work her magic on (the easy difficulty one)?

At least this post should do to reference a mention of this game in another thread.

I can't access the entire database, I can only enter the name of someone whose entry needs to be checked. So people who were only showing up when you play easy didn't come to my attention, since I always play difficult to (with any luck) score for my team. Obviously, players in the easy game are happy to have such hints given to them! But when they are reported, I can sort them out.

The names are all in a single pool, but they are selected for the different games based on performance statistics - Terry didn't move any actual names around, just adjusted the selection algorithm. And it is also clear the the easy game gets a small number of difficult people, just as the difficult game gets a few easy ones. That mix is the difference between the two games, it is not a matter of selecting from two discrete sets of questions.

And I got Henry Comstock = American prospector; Comstock Lode named for him - which will be changed next time I get to the database.
