Got this strange entry today.
The Earl of Ulster Your answer: British nobility; son of the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester Yup, that's correct. He is the only son of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. At his birth, he was 9th in line to the British throne. Currently he is 25th in line. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Windsor,_Earl_of_Ulster

This title (no surname) is son of another titled (no surname) couple.
This is a game of knowing people's names. I don't see Alexander Windsor mentioned in the clue or answer. The offspring of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester is not always going to be the Earl of Ulster. That offspring may be titled in some other manner. It is akin (but not exactly the same) to saying Peter Pan is the offspring of L. Frank Baum and Mrs Baum. The posit is not a good one IMHO because it is not based on personal accomplishment but by birth certificate..

The posit is not a good one IMHO because it is not based on personal accomplishment but by birth certificate.. The eldest son of the Duke of Gloucester will always be the Earl of Ulster. Royal and aristocratic titles follow strict rules and the holder's birth and birth order de facto will always be a decider. However, I can't see any reason for keeping him in WhoAmI. His father is a shy man and kept out of the public eye as much as possible, helped by the fact that he was one of the first royals to have a career (he was an architect). However, the Duke is first cousin to the Queen and has always helped out by undertaking royal duties, as does the Queen's other cousin, the Duke of Kent. Their roles have declined as the Queen's own family has grown up, and it has been possible for Lord Ulster to follow his own career path out of the public eye. Similar arguments apply to the Earl of St Andrews, the son of the Duke of Kent - he doesn't have a public role so if he's on the list, he could also be deleted.

I wasn't disputing the answer. The only reason I posted it was that I learnt nothing about the person's accomplishments or work through it. If there is anything interesting about him, it should probably be added. Else the entry is quite pointless.

To me, if someone is the son of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, I'd expect they would be SomeKindOfNobleTitleHere Gloucester, not Ulster. To further confuse matters, the second son of the current Duke of Gloucester is the Baron Culloden. Since the first Duke of Gloucester died in the late 1300s, I don't think I'll be able to keep straight who had the title during the centuries, who inherited it when, and when no one held the title.

Flopsy, Will the offspring of the Duke and Duchess (eldest or not) always be male and thus the Earl? And if being cousins of royalty is justification, why not allow cousins of the Kennedys, the Clintons or Tom Cruise to be entries? And I believe (but might be wrong) can't the Monarch and Parliament change the association of titles at their whim so that while traditional, the relation may not always hold true?

The eldest son will be the Earl of Ulster. When the current Duke of Gloucester dies, the Earl of Ulster will become the Duke of Gloucester. It is an inherited title. The Ealr of Ulster has a son, Xan. We will have to wait to see if Can has boys or girls as children. A female cannot be an Earl. The Duke of Gloucester did not receive his dukedom from his cousin Queen Elizabeth II. He inherited the title from his father, Prince Henry. Prince Henry was created Duke of Gloucester, Earl of Ulster, and Baron of Culloden by his father, King George V. It's not abut being a cousin of a monarch, but a child of the monarch.

If you're pointing out the odd years, American elections take place in even years divisible by 4. The President takes the oath of office on Jan 20th the following, odd year. If you're pointing out that the 20th century for the dates is wrong, right on! Tyler served from 1841 to 1845.

British nobility; England's premier Marquess
Your answer: Marquess of Winchester
My main objection to this, apart from the obvious, is that the answer is a title rather than a person.

I am actually reviewing all royalty as they appear, because adding the country where they rule is quite a give-away when it is in both their name and their description. In this case, however, you need to know that UK and British line up, so it is probably not going to be changed.

MiraJane, a name of Louis XIV of France which is described as King of France is too much of a give away for me to be happy; I could call him a Bourbon king, and accept it. I consider it an unreasonable give away to describe Edmond Halley as the man who predicted the return of Halley's Comet, or Don Everly as being a member of the Everly Brothers, adding the person's initials, etc. These can all be presented in a better way, so that players can readily make the match if they know who the person is (or, often, if they just recognize the probable nationality of the name).

Here's a fictional character:
Cartoon character created by Walt Disney Minnie Mouse
Also, in the same set, I got one asking about a Pope and the title Pope was in the correct answer (think it was Pius). In any event, if all such Pope questions are edited to remove Pope from the title, it may help make it less obvious). Just a thought.
