This one came up today.

3. Dionne Warwick
Your answer: American soul singer; Whitney Houston's aunt

I do believe she was a cousin, rather than an aunt.

Turns out you are correct, but don't you think you should be sure of your facts before submitting a correction? Making other people check your guesswork isn't exactly kosher.

I had only checked Wikipedia, and you have to take the content there with a pinch of salt. That's great that you have definitively confirmed it, Hairybear. Does that mean you will be updating the question in the game?

No, but I have done so. I might point out that, even if you had researched thoroughly to be sure of the statement, I would still have needed to duplicate the research - I do not make changes to the data that has been put up there by a previous manager of the entries without being sure of the facts!

Absolutely, and a great job you do too. Nothing has changed - that's a relief.

From a teammate:

It is about "Georg Reutter II"

"Baroque composer; succeeded his father as Kappelmeister "

It should be Kapellmeister.

Not an error but an observation. This isn't a "rule", but 99% of the entries give six different countries as options for where a person is from (on those days where the name is the clue), and those few that include the same country more than once do so as a hint that that's not the right answer. Just got Prue Acton who is Australian and three of the options included Australia. It doesn't fit the pattern at all.

I have no idea how Terry's algorithm for selection works. Sometimes there is only one with the correct country (or, even more obviously, gender), sometimes multiple. I had never considered that having multiple people from the same country meant they were wrong, and I doubt if it is intended to be a hard and fast rule.

Two more minor corrections. The Australian motorcycle racer is included twice, as Michael Doohan and Mick Doohan. And then the Waylon Jennings entry has "The Dukes of Hazzard" misspelled with just one z.

This one's just a personal preference... Friz Freleng gets credit for Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes, but no mention of Pink Panther. I think there's room.

Dalai Lama
Your answer: Tibetan spiritual & political leader

"Dalai Lama" is a title, not a name. The current (14th) Dalai Lama's name is Tenzin Gyatso. The 13th Dalai Lama's name was Thubten Gyatso. (Both names according to the screen that comes up on Bing search and Wikipedia)

Kirsten Dunst
Your answer: American film actress; 'Spiderman'

I have sent so many CNs on this name in so many questions and quizzes.
Spider-Man is the only correct way to write this. See imdb.com and marvel.com.

Got a fictional character today. Normally I don't care and don't post about those, but I was thinking perhaps the voice actress doesn't have an entry...

Fictional cartoon character; teenage daughter of George & Jane; voiced by Janet Waldo

Your answer: Judy Jetson

Ms. Waldo actually has quite an impressive list of credits.

That is one I tried to remove, but the tool I have been given to select entries for change doesn't give me a result when I enter the name. I have a list of similarly frustrating entries I cannot amend. I also am unable to add entries - I don't know who does it, I just edit what is there.

Audrey Kathleen Ruston, aka Hepburn-Ruston. Born in Belgium to a Dutch mother and British father. Spent her childhood in various countries including Belgium, Netherlands, and England. Parents divorced in 1939, and after war was declared between Germany and UK, her mother moved the family from England to Arnhem believing it would be safer. It wasn't. After the war, Hepburn won a scholarship with the Ballet Rambert, moved back to England and dropped the "Ruston" part of her name. Too tall and too malnourished to become a prima ballerina, she went back to acting - she'd done some in the Netherlands - and the rest is history.

I wrote a question on her for the NQ game and became a mine of useless Hepburn information!

9. Harold Larwood
Your answer: English centre of the cricketing 'bodyline' controversy.

Rather badly worded. Maybe add 'bowler,' after 'English'

Adding bowler won't make me understand it any better. I did get a Duel question correct once that asked something about the "body line" controversy. The info explained it, I think. I didn't understand it any better. I looked it up in Wikipedia and still didn't understand it.

I guess an American baseball analogy would be comparable to a pitcher aiming every pitch at the batter's throat and head, instead of at the catcher's mitt.

Bodyline was a tactic used by the English cricket team in the 1930s, mainly to stop the scoring prowess of Australian batsman, Don Bradman. It worked, with England winning 4 games to one, but a lot of people got hurt. The nasty tactic was banned shortly afterwards.

This clue came up today:

British motor racing champion in Formula One (1992) & CART (1992).

Given that the two series frequently had races on the same day on different continents, this would have been very impressive. In actual fact, the 1992 Formula 1 champion was the 1993 CART champion.

Thanks for picking up the typo - Nigel Mansell's entry had been fixed now.

Fictional character; woman of pleasure created by John Cleland

Only when they are noticed - I cannot see the entire database, only enter a name and deal with the entry when it surfaces. There are still a few I want to remove or amend but cannot get access to. Fanny Hill came up in my game today, and has been removed. I hope it doesn't damage the set for other players, though - I probably should have just noted it, but I would need to make all my changes during the brief time each day when the game is resetting to be absolutely sure I haven't had an impact on one of the active games, and that isn't viable.

Jenny Armstrong
Your answer: Australian female Olympic champion sailor; 470 Class

Jennifer Margaret Armstrong OAM is an Olympic sailor from New Zealand. After competing for her native country at the 1992 Olympics, she moved to Australia in 1996...

Maybe change to - NZ-Australian... sailor

I was just playing Word Wizard. I had the following letters. E A R V C I N M T P H Y.

I tried the following words. HERMATYPIC, HYPERMANIA, PARCHMENTY, PENTARCHY, NYMPHETIC, ARCHITYPE. Finally had to settle for PARCHMENT. Don't know what dictionary, thesaurus or lexicon is used as the source file for acceptable words, but I think it needs updated.
