There's a serious problem with this question, as of last week:

9. American wealthy entrepreneur; philanthropist; abolitionist
Your answer: Johns Hopkins

Here's the problem (I'm just giving you one citation)

Johns Hopkins Founder Owned Slaves, Disrupting Belief He ...

It's all over the internet. The University admits he owned slaves.

Thanks for the heads up - the story wasn't big enough to make the headlines down here! The entry will be edited appropriately.

I can understand that.
I live in Baltimore, where the largest private employer in the city is...Johns Hopkins (hospital and the university)!!
So, as you can imagine, it has been HUGE news here!! LOL!

The entry now describes him as an entrepeneur and founder of the hospital and university - he seems to have been an ardent abolitionist in public stance at least at some part of his life, which makes the fact that he owned slaves at some point apparently contradictory. Not necessarily, though - he just became a much more interesting historical figure to me. I look forward to the musical.

Australian novelist; 'We of the Never Never'(1908) was a novelized account of her time in NT
Your answer: Jeannie Gunn

I got this right by elimination (knowing who the other choices were), but am wondering what NT is. Should the abbreviation be spelled out?

The entries have a strict character limit - writing out the Northern Territory would have exceeded the limit. There are a number of entries which are somewhat cryptic and curt for that reason.

How about this instead:

Australian novelist; 'We of the Never Never', a novelization of her time in North. Terr.   ?

It has less characters than the original entry.

So NT is Northern Territory. Any other Australian abbreviations we should know?

NSW and VIC (New South Wales and Victoria) are common references, since their capital cities are the largest, so plenty of people born or creating there. NSW is the most likely to appear, since it saves the most characters. (The other states and territories are QLD, WA, SA, TAS, ACT - and I would avoid SA for South Australia, since I think South Africa when I see it, and have encountered a number of quiz questions that use it for South America.) But you don't really need to know the state code to identify an Australian person. Just as players who don't know the US state abbreviations can ignore it if necessary, since the person is identified as American (or similar). When I started maintaining the entries, many of them just said "British film and television actress" or "Australian author", and players managed. The extra information is really there to help players remember the new names they encounter, so there is something unique to that person you can file away in your memory for the net time.

No, that is what he changed his name to after he was released from the hospital after a suicide attempt.

They're not supposed to be there, but that one doesn't come up when I try to search for it to delete. There are also a handful of mythological entities hanging around.

Another one I had to give up on. When I enter Asta, I get Nastassja Kinski available to edit.

Australian-born stage & film actress; 'Tom Jones'; 2nd wife of Sean Connery

Unless he had a "secret" wife on the side, I believe Diane Cilento was his FIRST wife. He was HER 2nd husband.

That is an accepted phrase describing a person who is the sole person handling the watercraft. I admit there is a possible ambiguity in suggesting that he lost a hand along the way.

I have seen "Will Hay" pop up a few times now, but never "Will Hays", he of the Hays Code for Hollywood.
