As I'm writing this I've got a bit of heartburn. I absolutely hate it. It's not as bad as I have had it. But it's really bugging me. I have used Gaviscon but that just gives temporary relief. Any ideas from you peeps. Any wonder cures or soothers ?

Hard candy (NOT peppermint). The best cure for heartburn is your own saliva. Hard candy increases the production of the saliva which calms the fire.

Actually peppermint works for me. I keep the candy canes from Christmas in the freezer in case I don't have anything else available. I try to keep Tums, Maalox and Alka Seltzer in the house. Alka Seltzer works the best for me.

The main ingredient in peppermint aggravates the sphinter that keeps the gastric juices from coming up into the esophagus. It weakens it temporarily, so that the fluids are more able to flush back up and cause problems. So, they recommend that you don't use it. Any other hard candy is better.
