Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is correct?

Answer: John was supposed to go to the store.

Although it often sounds like people are saying 'suppose to', the actual phrase is 'supposed to'.
2. Which of these uses of capitalization is correct?

Answer: Julia Roberts won a Best Actress Oscar for "Erin Brockovich".

In the Movies category, we ask that authors capitalize the awards (Oscar, Golden Globe, MTV Movie Award) and the specific title won (Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Kiss).
3. Which of these is spelled correctly?

Answer: definitely

Like 'finite', with two 'i's.
4. Which of these is the correct way to reference a movie?

Answer: "Heat" teamed Pacino, De Niro, and Michael Mann.

Movie titles should be in quotes. They should be capitalized as titles - the first letter of every major word capitalized. You can use either ' or ", but you need to be consistent throughout the quiz.
5. Which of these is the correct way to capitalize a title?

Answer: The Man in the Iron Mask

All major words in movie or quiz (or other) titles should have the first letter capitalized. This excludes words like 'and,' 'but,' 'the,' 'of,' etc, unless they are the first word in the title.
6. What kind of html coding can be used in a quiz?

Answer: none

The FunTrivia system used to not recognize the space when you use a carriage return, so authors would have to use the html tag to get it to go through. However, the system has been updated to recognize carriage returns, and no html is permitted in quizzes.
7. You're doing a quotes quiz on Tarantino films. You know you'll have to do something about the language for the family-oriented site. Is it okay to just use *s or other characters to edit the words?

Answer: No

We do not permit the editing of words in this fashion. If you can omit words without altering the meaning of the quote, you can do so with [...]. Otherwise, you'll have to choose a new quote.
8. Which of the following sentences uses punctuation correctly?

Answer: Kevin Smith's first five films center on New Jersey, the director's birthplace.

Many quizmakers forget to use possessive apostrophes, but editors will not put your quiz online without them. Also, please remember that mid- and inter-sentence punctuation (like commas, periods, etc.) must be followed by spaces.
9. If you are a first-time quizmaker, can you use the fill in the blank (FITB) format in your quiz?

Answer: No

In the Movies category, we reserve this format for more advanced quizmakers because it is more difficult to use correctly. Beginning authors should stick to multiple choice and Y/N T/F.
10. What is the word limit on FITB answers in the Movies category?

Answer: 4

We do not permit FITB answers that exceed four words. That means "The Lord of the Rings" cannot ever be used as a FITB answer. We also do not permit FITB answers that call for punctuation. An example of something not allowed under that rule would be "A Knight's Tale".
