Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Alice tastes the liquid in the bottle marked "DRINK ME", she notices that is has many flavors. Which of these is not one of them?

Answer: Mustard

The other flavors that Alice tastes are Custard, Pineapple, and Cherry-Tart. The drink causes Alice to grow.
2. When Alice first meets the Mouse in the pool of tears, she makes several attempts to talk to it. After she fails to communicate in English, she tries French. What French phrase does she say to the Mouse?

Answer: Ou est ma chatte?

Alice thinks the Mouse may have come over with William the Conqueror, and she asks him "Where is my (female) cat"? (Yes, I know there should be a grave accent on the u in 'Ou', but this template does not allow diacritics).
3. In order to get dry after swimming in the pool of tears, the Mouse tells a story. However, one of the birds suggests a more energetic activity, a Caucus-race. Which of the following birds does not take part in the race?

Answer: Pelican

In a Caucus-race, participants start wherever they would like to on the course, then they start running whenever they feel like it. Everyone stops when they feel like it, and everybody wins.
4. Toward the end of the Mad Tea Party, the Dormouse regales the guests with a story about three little girls living at the bottom of a well. What kind of well is it?

Answer: a Treacle Well

Treacle, known as molasses in the U.S., is what the girls ate and was also something they could draw, as one draws water.
5. Before the Mock Turtle tells Alice his story, he reminisces about his education. Which of these is not a class the Mock Turtle took in school?

Answer: History

According to the Mock Turtle, French was one of the extra courses, Uglification was a branch of mathematics, and Fainting in Coils was taught by a conger eel.

There is also a Horse in the carriage, and an insect later identified as a Gnat. Alice hears many more voices, but cannot identify the speakers.
7. When the White Queen transforms into a Sheep, she and Alice find themselves in the Sheep's shop. How much do eggs cost?

Answer: Fivepence farthing for one and twopence for two

Alice is surprised to learn that two are cheaper than one, but when the Sheep tells her she must eat both if she buys them, Alive opts for a single egg.

Answer: Slithy and Mimsy

A portmanteau is a large suitcase, and Humpty Dumpty defines a portmanteau word as "two meanings packed into one word". "Slithy" is lithe and slimy, while "mimsy" means flimsy and miserable. "Brillig" is defined as 4:00 PM, "the time when you begin broiling things for dinner". "Toves" are a combination of badgers, lizards and corkscrews, and to "Gimble" "is to make holes like a gimlet".
9. During a break in the battle between the Lion and the Unicorn, Alice is asked to serve the plum cake. What is unusual about the cake?

Answer: When Alice tries to cut it, the pieces rejoin to leave the cake whole

The Unicorn explains to Alice that it is a Looking-Glass cake, and she should pass it around before cutting it. This works, as the cake divides itself into three pieces when passed.
