Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who killed Mr. Morley in "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe"?

Answer: Alastair Blunt

The wealthy banker Alastair Blunt is the killer. Miss Sainsbury Seale remembered that his wife was Gerda Grant, and not Rebecca Arnholt. She had to be silenced so it could not be proved that Blunt comitted bigamy. However, she mentioned to the blackmailer Mr. Amberiotis that his wife was named Gerda.

He realized the truth, and blackmailed Blunt with this information. Amberiotis had to be killed as well. Mr. Blunt noticed in his dentist's appointment book that Amberiotis was going to have his first appointment with Morley on the same day he was going. So he decided to kill the dentist(Morley), impersonate him (Amberiotis had never met Morley before, remember), and administer a fatal dose of novocaine and adrenaline to Amberiotis.
2. Who killed Norton in "Curtain"?

Answer: Hercule Poirot

Yes, Hercule Poirot does kill Norton. Norton was the mysterious "X" who convinced others to kill certain people, and they were arrested for the crime. Poirot realizes that the only way to stop this ruthless killer is to kill him himself.
3. Who kills Miss Vansittart in "Cat Among the Pigeons"?

Answer: Chadwick

Anne Shapland killed Miss Springer and Madmoiselle Blanche, but Miss Chadwick killed Vansittart to prevent her from becoming the headmistress. Chadwick dies at the end (she is shot by Anne Shapland).
4. Who killed Betty Barnard in "The ABC Murders"?

Answer: Franklin Clarke

Franklin Clarke was the ABC killer. He comitted a series of crimes to distract Poirot and the detectives from one particular crime (the murder of his brother). He killed his brother for money. The reason he wrote the letters to Poirot is because he wanted it to seem like all the crimes were connected.
5. Who killed Rex Fortescue in "A Pocketful of Rye"?

Answer: Gladys

Gladys, the maid, was the one who actually killed Rex Fortescue. She did not do it intentionally, however. Lance Fortescue pretended to fall in love with her. He told her that his father had comitted a terrible crime, and he gave her a "truth drug" to put in his tea, which would make him confess.

The "truth drug" was really the poison. Gladys is later murdered by him in order to complete the nursery rhyme. Rex's wife is also murdered.
6. Who killed Simeon Lee in "Hercule Poirot's Christmas"?

Answer: none of these

Simeon Lee's illegitimate son and killer was Superintendent Sudgen, who wanted revenge because Simeon abandoned his mother. He based his whole life around this. He entered the police force because he knew a police officer has a good opportunity to commit a murder and not be suspected.
7. Who killed Madame Giselle in "Death in the Clouds"?

Answer: Norman Gale

Norman Gale killed both Madame Giselle and her daughter, who was his wife.
8. Who killed Maggie Buckley in "Peril at End House"?

Answer: Nick Buckley

In this book, it appears that the target is Nick Buckley, who has had several attempts made on her life. Her cousin, Maggie, was killed wearing her shawl, and that fact supports this theory. Later it is revealed that Nick was engaged to the pilot Michael Seton, who recently died in a airplane crash.

He left all his money to her. However, Poirot sees through this. He realizes that there were two Magdala Buckleys, Nick and her cousin. Her cousin, Maggie, was the one who was engaged to Michael Seton. Nick made it seem that someone was trying to kill her, and she murdered Maggie. Seton's will said that he left everything to Magdala Buckley, so she just had to pretend that she was engaged to him to get the money.
9. Who killed Aristide Leonides in "Crooked House"?

Answer: Josephine

Aristide's granddaughter(Josephine) was the killer. She poisoned him because he wouldn't let her take ballet. She also made it seem that someone was trying to kill her.
10. Who killed Louise Leidner in "Murder in Mesopotamia"?

Answer: Eric Leidner

Eric Leidner was indeed the same person as Louise's previous husband, Frederick Bosner, who was believed to be dead. He found out about what was going on in her life, and whenever she fell in love with a man, he would write a letter threatening to kill her if she married that person. However, eventually he caught up with her, and they were married. But when she began liking Richard Carey, Leidner decided to murder her. He also incriminated Miss Johnson. He later killed her because she knew he was the killer and she knew how he comitted the murder.
