Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character has been erased from the movie that she appeared in?

Answer: Sunflower

Sunflower was a black centaurette who served the other centaurettes in the Pastoral Symphony segment of 1940's "Fantasia". To avoid accusations of racism, Disney has deleted her from all prints of the film made since 1969.
2. Which was NOT a controversy associated with Disney's "Aladdin"?

Answer: A scene in which Abu supposedly made obscene gestures at Jafar

Background noise during the recording of the scene before "A Whole New World" resulted in people claiming that they heard Aladdin say "Good teenagers, take off your clothes". The original lyric for "Arabian Nights" "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" was replaced by "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense." Robin Williams was outraged at Disney due to its breach of his contract, which stated that the genie could not take up more than 25% of advertising, and that his name could not be used as a marketing technique.
3. What is the name of Belle's true love?

Answer: Adam

Ferdinand was the name of Snow White's prince. Like the Beast, his name was also not mentioned in the movie he appeared in. Most Disney characters do have names, you just have to know where to look! Disney encyclopedias (as well as sites devoted to Disney on the internet) often reveal many secrets...
4. What musical genius was instrumental to the success of the Disney Renaissance Era?

Answer: Alan Menken

Ashman, Rice, and Schwartz all worked with Menken at one time or another during the Renaissance, but he remained a constant throughout the period, writing the scores for "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", and "Pocahontas".

He was going to work on "The Princess and the Frog" until Disney announced that Randy Newman would be doing it instead.
5. King Triton has seven daughters. According to statements made by the Disney company in 2008, in what order were they born, from first to last?

Answer: Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina, Ariel

It is common knowledge that Ariel is the youngest of Triton's daughters. However, there has been some debate as to the birth order of the elder six. Sources made between 1989 and 2008 by Disney affiliates have stated that Aquata is the oldest, and the others follow in the order that they are listed in the song "Daughters of Triton".

However, in 2008, the company provided an official list in which it is revealed that Attina is the eldest, and that the others follow in a completely different order, maintaining only Ariel as the seventh.
6. Which of the following Disney movies was frequently suspected to have been sabotaged by Michal Eisner?

Answer: Home on the Range

"Home on the Range" was a not-so-successful film about cows that decide to become bounty hunters, to save their farm from being sold. Supposedly, Eisner released "Home on the Range" at an awkward point of the year, when audiences would be less receptive. His motive: proving to the rest of the company that 2D animation was no longer viable.
7. Mulan joined the Chinese army under the alias "Fa Ping". What does this mean in Chinese?

Answer: Flowerpot

When asked her name upon joining the army, Mulan continues to use her family name, Fa, along with her assumed name, Ping. This is funny, because in Chinese, "flowerpot" is a slang term for a feminine man. This is a fitting pseudonym for her, considering that she definitely has some difficulties adjusting to her masculine persona.
8. There was once a movie in production known as "Kingdom of the Sun". Due to difficulties in the writing, it failed. However, not shelving it completely, the plot was given a major overhaul, and the film was released under what title?

Answer: The Emperor's New Groove

"The Emperor's New Groove" is the tale of a selfish young emperor who learns the true value of loyalty, honesty, and friendship after being accidentally transformed into a llama by his evil advisor, Yzma. "Kingdom of the Sun" was intended to be a "Prince and the Pauper" tale, set in the Incan empire. Though the setting, villain, and concept of a llama transformation were kept, the rest of the plot was completely changed.
9. Despite countless controversies and urban legends, Disney films are generally known to be completely clean, without sexual references. Walt Disney himself admitted that one movie produced by the company contained a "suggested sex scene". Which was it?

Answer: Lady and the Tramp

"Lady and the Tramp" tells the story of a female dog, owned by a wealthy family, who falls in love with a shabby mutt from the wrong side of the tracks. After the "Bella Notte" sequence, Lady and the Tramp spent the night on a hill, and woke up at each other's side. Even though it is not explicitly stated, Lady had been in heat at the time (explaining why she was so fiercely pursued by the dogs in the alley). Disney said that, though sex out of wedlock was discouraged in film at the time, they were able to get away with it due to the tasteful way it was done and, more importantly, because the characters were dogs.

It was considered naturalism.
10. Which Disney film was the last to be animated completely by hand?

Answer: Sleeping Beauty

"Sleeping Beauty" is based upon the classic fairy tale, in which a cursed princess slumbers, only to be awakened by her true love. "101 Dalmatians," the Disney movie made immediately after "Sleeping Beauty" was the first to use the process of xerography to save time, and simplifying the animation process. "The Little Mermaid" was the final film to use this process.

After this, the CAPS system, using the computer to assist with 2D animation was used. "Home on the Range" was, originally, to be the last 2D animated movie produced by the company, before they had a change of heart.
