Answer: Hank Williams

Hank was fired from the Grand Ole Oprey in 1952 for too many no-shows. He died one year later, at age 29.
Hank also recorded under the name of Luke the Drifter.
2. I was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, a "Coal Miner's Daughter". My first number one single was "Don't Come Home A'Drinkin' (With Lovin' on your Mind)".

Answer: Loretta Lynn

Loretta racked up 16 number one hits over a 21-year recording career. She still works the Oprey and tours each year.
3. I was born in Bakersfield, California in 1937. I was in the audience when Johnny Cash did his San Quentin Prison concert. I took up picking and singing in 1960, formed my back-up band, The Strangers, in 1961, and together we recorded 38 number one hits thru 1987. My nick-name is "The Fugitive".

Answer: Merle Haggard

After a troubled youth, Merle served over three years in San Quentin for burglary and then, upon achieving super-star status, he was fully pardoned by President Ronald Reagan, and his record was expunged.
4. I was born in 1936 in Olive Hill, Kentucky. I started my music career as a radio disc jockey, but was soon performing in small venues in the area. My first release was "I Washed my Face in the Morning Dew" in 1967. Two years later, I scored my first of seven number one hits with "A Week in a County Jail". Although my last number one hit was in 1976, I continued recording for another ten years.

Answer: Tom T. Hall

Tom is a Grand Ole Oprey member since 1980. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980.
5. I went from being a member of Moon Mullican's band to radio announcer, where I sang between records, I finally landed a recording contract which produced "Mexican Joe" and "Bimbo". This opened the door, and I soon became one of the first "Cross-over" country artists to score in the pop charts with songs including "Four Walls", "He'll Have to Go", and "Welcome to my World"

Answer: Jim Reeves

Before the advent of the "Hot New Country" venue (which my mother refers to as the "Hat of the Month Club"), Jim was ranked number nine overall on the All-Time top 100 Country Artists.
He, along with his piano accompanist, died in a small plane crash. We would have lost Floyd Cramer as well, but Jim fired him a week earlier, so he was not the piano player on the flight.
6. I ranked number 20 on the all-time list in the fifties, although I've fallen to number 152 lately. I died in 1975, but my recordings kept on being released for another four years. I only ever had one hit to climb to number one, "Candy Kisses", which was my first release, but I gave the world a superstar in my daughter, Lorrie.

Answer: George Morgan

My personal Favorite of George's is "You're the Only Good Thing (That's Happened to Me)".
George was one of the first singers to be labeled a "Country Crooner" (along with Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves). His singing style was more along the lines of Perry Como or Bing Crosby, as opposed to the Big Country stars of the day, such as Ernest Tubb or Porter Wagoner.
7. I was born in Houston, Texas in 1938. I'm listed as a Singer/Songwriter/guitarist/actor. My first big break came when I was made a member of the New Christy Minstrels. I soon had my own Rock group, the First Edition, but broke that group up to become one of the first to make the transition from Rock to Country. I soon became a "heart-throb", and my audiences were usually 80% middle-aged ladies.

Answer: Kenny Rogers

Kenny scored 21 number one hits over a span of 28 years, including "(You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me) Lucille", "Daytime Friends (and Night-time Lovers)", and my favorite, "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton, and "We've Got Tonight", with Kim Karns, another New Christy alumni.
8. I was born in 1932. I started my career playing Jazz, moved on to Blues, and finally settled in writing, singing and playing Country music on my piano. I was CMA Male vocalist of the year in 1973. I was Entertainer of the Year in 1974. My biggest hit was "Behind Closed Doors". I died in 1995, of a blood clot.

Answer: Charlie Rich

All four choices are piano players, but there's only one Silver Fox!

Mickey Gilley, Jerry Lee Lewis and TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart are cousins.
9. I started my recording career off with two number one hits in 1950; "I Love You a Thousand Ways" and "If You've Got the Money (I've Got the Time)". I continued recording for 25 years until my death in 1975. I was a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and am in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Answer: Lefty Frizzell

Allen and David are Lefty's younger brothers, both Country recording artists in their own right.
David is best known for his duet work with Shelly West, daughter of Dottie West.
David and Shelly had two number one hits; "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino (to Decorate Our Home)", and "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma".
10. We are a vocal group from Staunton, Virginia. We were performing primarily Gospel-themed music when we came to the attention of Mr. Johnny Cash in 1963, and became a part of His touring show, where we remained until 1971. We recorded our first song, "Flowers on the Wall", in 1966. It climbed to number two, and stayed on the charts for 22 weeks, and won us a Grammy!

Answer: Statler Brothers

Only two of the Statler Brothers were actually brothers.
They took their name off a box of tissues in the hotel room.
They often joked that they could easily have become the Kleenex Brothers.

The Statler Brothers continued recording through 1990.
