Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first full-length animated movie made by Disney that contained smoking was "Pinocchio". Where was the titular character when he smoked?

Answer: Pleasure Island

Pinocchio was tricked into going to Pleasure Island where he thought he would enjoy himself. While there, he played billiards, smoked, and got drunk. After seeing another boy, Lampwick, being turned into a donkey, Pinocchio stopped smoking. This however did not stop him from becoming a donkey as well.
Similarly, it was also the first full-length animated Disney movie that featured someone drinking.
2. Which two characters smoked in "101 Dalmatians"?

Answer: Cruella and Roger

Cruella de Vil used a cigarette holder in the movie, and she was constantly seen smoking in "101 Dalmatians". There were a few scenes where she wasn't smoking but more often than not, she smoked.
Roger Radcliffe smoked a pipe quite a few times, though he didn't smoke as often as Cruella. For example, Roger smoked when he took Pongo for a walk (the walk where Pongo and Perdita met), while waiting for Perdita to deliver the puppies, and after getting the puppies back from Cruella.
3. What type of animal smoked in "Alice in Wonderland"?

Answer: caterpillar

During Alice's adventure in Wonderland, she came across many strange creatures, one of which was a hookah-smoking caterpillar. When he smoked, the smoke would form letters based on the words he was saying. For example, when he asked Alice "who are you?", the letter R appeared. Likewise, when asking "why" either the letter Y or a question mark would appear.
4. In "Aladdin", what was the genie doing when he was smoking?

Answer: Talking to Aladdin after being freed from the Cave of Wonders

Genie was briefly smoking when talking to Aladdin, shortly after Genie freed Aladdin from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin was in love with Jasmine, and as he was describing her, Genie transformed into (presumably) a Frenchman. He was seen smoking at a candlelit dinner with Abu and carpet.
Also, shortly after being released from the lamp by Aladdin, Genie asked "Do you smoke? Mind if I do?" However, he did not smoke while in the Cave of Wonders.
5. Which princess was trying to smoke a pipe?

Answer: Ariel

Ariel made a deal to become human, so she and Eric could meet. If Eric did kiss Ariel, she would be human permanently. While having dinner with Eric and his manservant, Grimsby, Ariel noticed Grimsby smoking a pipe. He asked if Ariel liked it, so Ariel took it and tried to smoke it; however, she failed and her attempt only resulted in Grimsby getting a face full of smoke. The two guys thought little of it, and the dinner continued.
Although not the first Disney movie to feature smoking, it was the first time that a princess was seen smoking.
6. Why did LeFou offer Gaston some beer?

Answer: Belle had turned down Gaston's offer to marry him.

Gaston believed Belle was the woman for him (she was the best and Gaston deserved the best), so he proposed to Belle expecting her to say yes but she actually said no. He was so sure she would say yes that he even had a wedding ceremony all set up for their marriage.
Gaston went to the tavern where his assistant, LeFou, offered Gaston some beer because of Belle's refusal, hoping it would cheer him up; it didn't. It wasn't until Belle's father, Maurice, showed up claiming there was a beast that Gaston became cheerful again.
7. In "The Great Mouse Detective", a mouse named Bartholomew was seen drinking. While drunk, what mistake did he make?

Answer: He called Ratigan a rat.

Despite being a rat, and having rat as part of his last name, Professor Ratigan hated being called a rat. While singing "World's Greatest Criminal Mind", one of Ratigan's associates, Bartholomew, having had too much to drink, referred to Ratigan as a rat. This caused Ratigan to be furious and feed Bartholomew to his cat, Felicia.
8. In "The Aristocats", there was a goose who was drunk. What was his name?

Answer: Waldo

Uncle Waldo was the name of the drunken goose. He had been drinking at a restaurant, and when he left, he encountered Abigail and Amelia, his nieces. They met him while they were journeying with the cats. Abigail and Amelia left Duchess and her cats (and Thomas) to be with their Uncle Waldo.
9. In "Sleeping Beauty", King Stefan and King Hubert were seen drinking. What were they celebrating when they were drinking?

Answer: The future marriage of Aurora and Phillip

Aurora and Phillip were betrothed which pleased their fathers, Stefan and Hubert respectively, because it would involve uniting the two kingdoms. As the wedding day approached, Stefan and Hubert celebrated, which included drinking - the result of having a toast to the future - and fighting each other using fish.
There was a little bit of confusion when Phillip told his father that he wished to marry a peasant girl because no one realized that the peasant girl was Princess Aurora.
10. It was during "Pink Elephants on Parade" that a character saw hallucinations because he was drunk. Who was this character?

Answer: Dumbo

To cheer Dumbo up, who did not like his job at the circus, Timothy had the two of them drink water together. However, what they did not know, was that champagne was mixed with the water. This caused the two of them to get drunk and for Dumbo to hallucinate pink elephants. By the next morning, the two got better.
