"In those days Mr. Sherlock Holmes was still living in Baker Street and the Bastables were looking for treasure in the Lewisham Road. In those days, if you were a boy you had to wear a stiff Eton collar every day, and schools were usually nastier than now. But meals were nicer; and as for sweets, I won't tell you how cheap and good they were, because it would only make your mouth water in vain. And in those days there lived in London a girl called Polly Plummer." Difficulty: Average.

The Queen is holding on to Polly's hair; this is why she comes with them to the Wood between the Worlds. The Queen becomes really out of breath when she's not in her own world. Difficulty: Very Easy.

 

Anyone within 10 meters of the rings will travel with the ring bearers as well, The rings didn't do anything, the Queen just used her magic to get out, The Children didn't use the rings to get back, they just said the magic word

Polly is one of two main characters in the book. Difficulty: Very Easy.

This was in that part of the house where there was a walkway through to the other houses in the terrace; the children used this to go through to Uncle Andrew's study (they misjudged the distance as they wanted to get into the empty house next door). Difficulty: Average.

Uncle Andrew thought that yellow was "for the outward journey", but really, all yellow rings led to the Wood Between the Worlds, Polly's name for the mysterious forest with the magic pools in it. Difficulty: Average.

Uncle Andrew is a magician! He sent guinea pigs to a different world! Difficulty: Average.

Green brings people back, and there are no brown and blue rings. Difficulty: Hard.

Polly was afraid that the rings might not work, and that they wouldn't be able to get back to London after they had finished exploring the other worlds. Digory and Polly jumped into the pool that led back to London, and they switched their rings when they could see London. Difficulty: Easy.

 

Polly wanted to tell her mom where she was going., Digory wanted to ask Uncle Andrew where the other pools led., They wanted to get some food for the trip.

To make matters even more interesting, Uncle Andrew tells Digory that the dust was from the lost city of Atlantis. Difficulty: Hard.

Narnia is not in this book until much later. Charn is the next place they enter. Archenland is not in this book at all. Difficulty: Very Easy.

This was a horse that was meant to pull a cab. The cab was still attached when the Queen arrived and it crashed into Digory's front porch. Difficulty: Easy.

The green rings, contrary to Uncle Andrew's misconception that they led one back to England, led one out of The Wood Between the Worlds through any pool to another world. Difficulty: Hard.

 

To the Wood Between the Worlds, To England, To any land in Narnia one wished to go to

It seemed to everyone as if the stars were singing and that the voice had called them into being. As more and more light appeared they saw that the singer was Aslan the Lion.

The creation of Narnia is not meant to be exactly as the creation of the earth as seen in the first chapter of Genesis in the Christian Bible. In Genesis the sun, moon and stars are created on the third day of seven. In Lewis's book everything happens in the same space of time. However, in Aslan the lion we are meant to see Jesus as the creator. St John's Gospel (NIV) opens with "In the beginning was the Word." Jesus is called the Word of God so the Christian Bible is teaching that Jesus is the creator. The story is an allegory of the Christian story of Creation. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Polly, An angel, Jadis

Her full title is Queen Jadis, Queen Of Charn or Queen Of Narnia but she isn't really queen of Narnia, she is a witch. Difficulty: Easy.

The dust was brought from Atlantis when our world was just beginning. By that time Atlantis was already a great city even though our world was not very old. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Clay from 1000 years ago, Dust from 1000 years ago, Glass

Digory knew that he would always wonder what would have happened if he had struck the bell, because that was what the poem had said. Digory thought that if he got home without seeing what would have happened, he would be driven mad by always thinking about it. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Jadis made him do it., He wanted to impress Polly by acting unafraid., He thought that it might heal his mother.

This warning/invitation was inscribed on the plaque that sat on the table that also held the small bell and mallet in Charn. Difficulty: Easy.

In future books, she is referred to as the White Witch. She knew a word that could kill anything and used it on her own world. Difficulty: Easy.

The owner of this horse has a big role later in the book. Difficulty: Very Easy.

This is the setting for the two children's first adventure where they make a big mistake. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Digory's, The Ketterly's, It was outside

He explained to the children that the gReen rings would go in the Right pocket - the 'r' being the connecting factor. He did not understand the nature of the rings though. Polly and Digory would discover that the yellow one would draw the wearer into the Wood between the Worlds, and the green would take them away from it. Uncle Andrew tried to escape Narnia by using the green ring, thinking it would take him back to our world, but it would not work even if he succeeded. Difficulty: Hard.

Digory and Polly jump into a pool that leads them to the ruined city of Charn. They don't go to Narnia until later. Terebinthia is a city/province in Narnia, and Harfang is the ruined city of the giants from "The Silver Chair". Difficulty: Hard.

Polly had always wanted to know what was beyond the tunnel because she only went through a bit in the past. Difficulty: Hard.

 

They did not go anywhere, They said some magic words, The boy took the girl to the room

Jadis spoke the Deplorable Word with all of the proper ceremonies, and it destroyed every living thing in Charn except for herself. Difficulty: Hard.

 

She used the magic of her dark sorcery., She called to Aslan for help., She had a huge war.

"In the darkness something was happening at last. A voice had begun to sing. It was very far away and Digory found it hard to decide from what direction it was coming. Sometimes it seemed to come from all directions at once. Sometimes he almost thought it was coming out of the earth herself. There were no words. There was hardly even a tune. But it was, beyond comparison, the most beautiful noise he had ever heard. It was so beautiful that he could hardly bear it." Difficulty: Easy.

The Queen hits many people with her weapon before she is grabbed by Digory and brought back to the Wood between the Worlds. Difficulty: Very Easy.

This was the big mistake they made, and caused them to start their big journey. Difficulty: Very Easy.

 

Digory's, Polly's, They are actually in the abandoned house

Digory said that you could almost feel the trees growing, and drinking up the water with their roots, it was so rich and full of quiet magic. Difficulty: Hard.

Frank and Helen are made king and queen by Aslan. (The founder of Narnia) Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy come in the book 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'. Difficulty: Hard.
