Four, Two, One

The pilots of the Evangelion or EVAs are called 'Children'. Rei is the First Child/Children and pilots Unit 00, also known as the Evangelion prototype. Asuka Langley Soryu is the Second Child/Children and pilots Unit 02. Shinji Ikari, the son of NERV Commander Gendo Ikari, is the Third Child/Children and pilots the seemingly special Unit 01. Toji Suzuhara is the Fourth Child/Children, although he only pilots Unit 03 once. Kaworu Nagisa is the Fifth Child/Children and pilots Unit 02 while Asuka is nursing her injuries. Difficulty: Easy.

 

Second Child/Children, Third Child/Children, Fifth Child/Children

The Evas are created from the DNA of Adam, apart from Unit 01 who was created from Lilith's DNA. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Angels, Gods, Demons

Dr. Leonard Hayflick (Born in 1928), Ph.D., is a famous professor of Anatomy and Medical Microbiology who founded the council of the 'NIA' ('National Institute of Aging'). He won the 'Sandoz Prize for Gerontological Research' in 1991 and wrote the famous book 'How and Why We Age'. Among the years, Dr. Hayflick achieved a series of discoveries and influential theories such as the anti-aging processes, the causes for atypical pneumonia and the invention of the 'famous inverted microscope' (between others). Difficulty: Hard.

The 'DSM' ('Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders') grouped ten different personality disorders, divided in three Clusters: Cluster A (odd or eccentric disorders) presents the 'Schizoid personality disorder' (which resembles Rei) while Cluster B (dramatic, emotional, or erratic disorders) exhibits the 'Narcissistic personality disorder' (used in Asuka) and Cluster C (anxious or fearful disorders) talks about the 'Avoidant personality disorder' (which perfectly resembles Shinji). Difficulty: Hard.

'Production I.G' and 'MOVIC' participated in the animation production and co-production (respectively) of the two movies: 'Death & Rebirth'/'End of Evangelion'. 'Tatsunoko Productions' was the TV series' animation co-producer and 'Starchild', on the other hand, is a Japanese company licensed by 'King Records' which got involved in the music production of the TV series, the two movies and 'Rebuild of Evangelion'. Difficulty: Hard.

Sigmund Freud is a famous 19th century psychologist. William Reich was his student, who later developed the idea of the AT field. The field itself is the theory that a child who grew up without strong parental figures would create a mental barrier, or the Absolute Terror field, to keep others at an emotional distance. Shinji is the Third Child, as he was the third suitable person chosen to pilot an Evangelion. The First Child was Rei Ayanami, and the Second Child was Asuka Langley Soryu. Difficulty: Average.

It is indeed the Angel of Rain. The Angel of Fear is Ireul (11th Angel), the Angel of Hail is Bardiel (13th Angel), and the Angel of Might is Zeruel (14th Angel). Difficulty: Hard.

The tubes around her suck up the LCL for the Eva Units. Its basically her blood but since she is the creator of mankind, it can be used for cloning experiments as all humans are composed of it. Difficulty: Hard.

A plug suit is the special suit that the EVA pilots wear before entering the entry plug of their EVA, hence the name plug suit, although there are instances when Shinji pilots Unit 01 in just his uniform. Rei's plug suit is mostly white; Asuka's plug suit is mostly red and Shinji's plug suit is blue and white. Difficulty: Hard.

In fact the Angels don't actually want to hurt the humans. They just want to become one being with them. This is shown in episode 23 "Rei III" when the angel Armisael tries to fuse with Rei and Shinji. Difficulty: Average.

 

Demons, Devils, Pies

In Episode 24 we see (while Misato is thinking about the Fifth Child) that there's a poster of a blue Alpine A110 sports coupé shot from behind during a race. A curious fact is that she actually drives a Renault Alpine A310 blue coupé (the successor of the Alpine A110). More secret messages, perhaps? Difficulty: Hard.

Throughout both the Old and New Testaments of the Christian Bible, the number seven is used to represent divinity, especially showing up when God manifests His will. One example is Revelation 5:6. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Three, Five, Two

Balthasar, Melchior, and Caspar, the three MAGI, were created by Ritsuko's mother Naoko Akagi, and represent herself as a woman, herself as a scientist, and herself as a mother. Difficulty: Easy.

So, where Rei floats in her tank filled with "LCL" (Inside "Central Dogma") from time to time, is also where her clones are situated. This place symbolises the transfer of genetic information in the order of DNA to RNA to Protein. Difficulty: Hard.

 

RNA to DNA to Protein, Protein to DNA to RNA, Protein to RNA to DNA

Rei's got a mixture of Yui's flesh and mind with an upgrade of Lilith's powers and soul which has somehow manifested into the personality you'd expect Lilith to have if she was human. Difficulty: Average.

 

She's a vampire, Same as everybody else, God said "Let there be Rei", and there was Rei

Rei is implied to have been made from the cells of Yui Ikari which is why they closely resemble each other. Yui Ikari is the mother of Shinji and was once a student of Fuyutsuki. She dies and disapperas during a failed experiment inside, but her soul is said to live on in Unit 01, which is why Unit 01 and Shinji have a high synch ratio. Difficulty: Easy.

 

Kaworu Nagisa, Naoko Akagi, Maya Ibuki

Nobody really knows why the kids in that class are possible pilots. Difficulty: Hard.

 

The class are to become Angels, The class are trained to hate adults, The class are to be used in cloning experiments

'The Super Solenoid Theory' ('S2 Theory' for short) was a scientific theory advocated by Dr. Katsuragi, which tried to explain the origins of Adam's energy generation (aka 'The Giant of Light'). After proven correct by the discovery of the angel, he and his crew went to an expedition to study the infamous "giant", which resulted in the 'Second Impact'. Difficulty: Hard.

 

First Impact Theory, Kabbalah's Tree of Life Theory, Relativity Theory

A curious fact is that all three characters were also voiced in English by the same person: Amanda Winn-Lee, so technically, Amanda was the voice actress of Megumi Hayashibara! Difficulty: Hard.

Seele means 'Soul/Spirit' in german. Therefore, Brain and Nerves (mental elements) need to be in a stable balance with the spirit and soul (emotional/existential elements) in order to synchronize with the Evangelions. The connection between the three is indirectly shown in the series as the SEELE organization supported both GEHIRN and NERV agencies. Also notice that the three names are always showed in 'CAPITALS'. Difficulty: Hard.

 

'Magi', 'NeonGeo', 'Marduk'

Lilith is said to have been banished from the Garden of Eden when she refused to be subserviant to Adam, because she, unlike Eve, was not created from Adam. Difficulty: Hard.

 

Cain, Abel, Abraham

The twelfth angel was made up of a Sea of Dirac, which swallowed up Shinji and Eva Unit 01. Difficulty: Hard.

 

A Parasitic Virus, A high power A.T. Field, Human Souls

Dr Naoko Akagi had finally finished the "MAGI", and therefore, a new organisation was formed ("NERV"). Most of the people who worked at "Gehirn" transferred over to "NERV", where they continued working on the "E-Project". Difficulty: Hard.

 

Yui Ikari lost her life in the first activation test of "Evangelion Unit 01", "Evangelion Unit 00" had finally been completed, "SEELE" forced Gendo to create "NERV", as they wanted to set their affairs in motion ("The Human Instrumentality Project")

Although it is never actually said, there are multiple clues about it. Unit 01 protecting Shiji, the high sync rate with Shinji, the amount of times Unit 01 has gone "berserk", the time when Shinji was trapped inside Unit 01 for a month and so on so forth. Difficulty: Hard.

 

No one's, Adam's, Lilith's

The Black seed contained Lilith, who went on the become the mother of humankind. The Black seed or Black moon became the GeoFront and the rest of it became the moon. Its mentioned by Gendo in episode 21 "He was aware that he was still a child" that humans didn't build the GeoFront, it was there before and they decided to build NERV HQ there. Difficulty: Hard.

While taking a break at NERV Headquarters, Maya was reading a brown book (maybe a novel?), Shigeru Aoba played air guitar while listening to his headphones and Hyuga simply entertained himself with a comic book. On the other hand, Misato and Ritsuko were talking about the school trip to Okinawa while our favourite pilots found themselves at the 'Olympic' pool of the facilities. Difficulty: Hard.

 

'Time', 'NERV for dummies', 'Sailor Moon'

"Fly Me to the Moon" was written by American actress/singer Kaye Ballard in 1954 and recorded by Felicia Sanders in 1959 (although the tune was later covered by many artists like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall and many more). Evangelion's version was instrumentally arranged by Shiro Sagisu and performed by many artists like Claire Littley, Yoko Takahashi, Kotono Mitsuishi and Utada Hikaru (to name a few). Difficulty: Average.

 

Thanatos (If I Can't Be Yours), Beautiful World, A Cruel Angel's Thesis

Misato drinks a total of four different brands of beer in 'Neon Genesis Evangelion'. In Episode 5, Misato drinks two brands at the same time: "Yebisu" and "Yebisu Premium", both cans the same. Then, in Episode 7, she changes to "Yebichu" (similar can with some kind of drawing/logo in the center) and finally, in Episode 10, she drinks "BOA" (grey can with red letters that read 'Kuroshio Bussan'). After Ryoji Kaji's death, Misato switches to UCC canned coffee, also featured in 'Rebuild of Evangelion 1.01: You Are (Not) Alone'.

Kagi kidnapped Fuyutsuki so he could meet with the rest of SEELE without Gendo Ikari present. Difficulty: Hard.

Rei states this to Shinji. He admits that he wants to see the other people again, and Lilith's head falls off. "Third Impact" ceased. Difficulty: Hard.

 

"The Sea of Dirac", "Heaven's Sea of Life and Death", "Heaven's Sea of Death and Rebirth"

SEELE are the group of men that you rarely see. Whenever they interact with any of the characters, its usually sound only. They think man has to become too powerful and the only way to solve this is to bring about the last stage of evolution. Difficulty: Hard.

 

To kill all the Angels, To save Tokyo III, To work in labs

During one of the activation tests for Unit 00, the unit goes berserk and leaves Rei seriously injured. Gendo Ikari goes to rescue Rei himself, during which his hands get burned and his eyeglasses fall. Rei keeps the eyeglasses and appears to treasure them but later destroys them and defies Gendo. Difficulty: Easy.

A team of scientists from Gehirn went to Antarctica for a contact experiment with Adam but went horribly wrong and ended up destroy Antarctica and killing all of the team. this became known as Second Impact. Difficulty: Hard.

 

New Zealand, Norway, Japan

The original theory says that a small and young planet called "Theia" formed near the Earth's orbit and then crashed with it, tearing a small part of the planet, creating its own satellite: The Moon. "First Impact" refers to the same theory, where "Theia" is in fact the "Black Moon" (the 'egg' from where Lilith came), which in addition to the events showed above, it also crashed with the Earth creating the Geo-FRONT (giant hole where NERV HQ were). Difficulty: Hard.

 

Second Impact, Third Impact, Big Bang

The leaf comes from Judeo-Christian beliefs that Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge, giving them knowledge of right and wrong. In shame, they covered themselves with fig leaves. Difficulty: Average.

 

Figs, The raking in of souls, Oneness with nature

In two episodes we see Kaji watering melons, and he explains to Shinji that he does it as a hobby. Difficulty: Easy.

 

Collecting Stamps, Collecting Guns, Growing Berries

The names of these songs are flashed on the screen and stay there for about 2 seconds. Both composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Vorspier" (Played by Shinji) and "Gavotte in Rondo" (Played by Asuka). The others are also by Bach, but I only threw them in because I needed 2 more combinations. Difficulty: Hard.

It was foretold in the Dead Sea Scrolls, that when Adam and Lilith would combine it would basically create God and everyone would give up all physical boundaries. It was going pretty well too, until Shinji rejected it and Adam/Lilith died. Difficulty: Hard.

 

To destroy the world, To make everyone freaks, To turn humans into hammers
