Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Polish month names are particularly interesting because, unlike in most other European languages, they are not derived from Latin. Instead, almost all of them originate from Old Slavic roots that describe natural phenomena, agricultural activities or typical weather for that month. The calendar itself tells a story about the rhythms of nature and traditional rural life in Poland.

styczeń (January): from "stykać" ("to join, to meet") - the month where the old and new year meet
luty (February): from "luty" ("severe, fierce") - the fierce (cold) month
marzec (March): from Mars, the Roman god of war (name was adopted later from Latin)
kwiecień (April): from "kwiat" ("flower") - the flowering month
maj (May): from Latin "Maius" month of Maia, the Roman goddess of growth
czerwiec (June): from "czerw" ("maggot, worm") - the month when these small insects or larvae were abundant, historically used for dye or farming purposes
lipiec (July): from "lipa" ("linden tree") - the month of the linden blossom
sierpień (August): from "sierp" ("sickle") - the month of the sickle, i.e. harvest time
wrzesień (September): from "wrzos" ("heather") - the month of the heather bloom
październik (October): from "paździerz" ("shive", the woody part of flax or hemp stalks) - the month of flax/hemp processing
listopad (November): literally "listo-pad" ("leaf-fall") - the month when leaves fall
grudzień (December): from "gruda" ("clod," "frozen lump of earth") - the month of frozen ground

The incorrect answers represent the days of the week in Polish: poniedziałek (Monday), wtorek (Tuesday), środa (Wednesday), czwartek (Thursday), piątek (Friday), sobota (Saturday), niedziela (Sunday)
