Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Claudine starred in a 1968 film opposite Peter Sellers. Can you name the film?

Answer: The Party

In the movie "The Party" (1968), Claudine played Michele Monet, a struggling actress who attended a swanky Hollywood party with Captain "Permission to Come Aboard" Stubing (a.k.a. Gavin McLeod). While at "The Party", Claudine's character met Hrundi V. Bakshi, a bumbling East Indian actor who had been accidentally invited to the party, played by Peter Sellers.

The film was essentially a Sellers vehicle for his hilarious antics, but Longet brought to the screen her gentle sweetness, which was irresistible.
2. Claudine was a very accomplished singer and released several albums in the 1960s and the early 1970s. Her best selling album sold more than 500,000 copies. Can you name it?

Answer: Claudine

The album "Claudine" released in 1967 was her debut release. Claudine's French accent was very distinguishable in her vocals and although the songs were light, poppy type affairs, her singing was haunting and sometimes other worldly. The album reached number 11 on "Billboard's Hot 200" in 1967.
3. Claudine Longet was married to actor/singer Dean Martin from 1961 to 1975.

Answer: False

Claudine was married to Andy Williams from 1961 to 1975, although they separated in 1970. The couple met in Las Vegas where she was working as a dancer and he was headlining one of the many shows. The couple had three children together named Noelle, Christian and Bobby.
4. Where was Claudine born?

Answer: Paris

Claudine was born in Paris, France on January 29, 1942 and later moved to the United States where she met Andy Williams in 1961, in Las Vegas.
5. What was the name of the Las Vegas show that Claudine was involved with when she met her first husband?

Answer: Folies Bergere

Claudine was the lead dancer in this French themed Las Vegas show in 1961, when she met Andy Williams. She was 19 at the time and he was 14 years her senior. The show itself had been a Las Vegas staple for years and there was a scene from the Elvis Presley movie "Viva Las Vegas" (1964) that featured the "Folies Bergere" show.
6. Which famous skier was Claudine romantically involved with in the mid 1970s?

Answer: Spider Sabich

Spider Sabich was a former Olympic slalom skier, whom Claudine was involved with after leaving her husband, Andy Williams. In 1976, while at Sabich's place in the mountains in Colorado, it was alleged that Claudine had purposely murdered Sabich. Claudine claimed that the gun went off in her hand. Claudine was put on trial for murder and was found not guilty of murder but guilty of criminally negligent homicide; she spent 30 days in jail.

She shied away from public life after this and had kept a very low profile during the years following the incident.
7. Claudine recorded an album in 1974 but it was not released until 1993.

Answer: True

The album was titled "Sugar Me" and it contained many tracks she had recorded with Barnaby Records in 1974. She recorded principally for A&M Records in the 1960s, but recorded three albums with Barnaby Records, "Let's Spend the Night Together," "We've Only Just Begun" and "Sugar Me". The first two were released at the time, but inexplicably "Sugar Me" was not released until 1993.
8. There is a scene in the movie "The Party" (1968) where Claudine is sitting with a guitar singing a particular song. Can you name the song?

Answer: Nothing to Lose

"Nothing to Lose" was written by Henry Mancini, who wrote all of the music for the movie "The Party" (1968). Longet has not released the song on any of her albums.
9. Claudine had minor roles in some early 1960's television shows and a role in the film "McHale's Navy" (1964). But it was an appearance on a specific television show that helped launch her singing career. Can you name it?

Answer: Run For Your Life

Although Claudine made guest appearances on all of these shows it was her appearance on "Run For Your Life" (a show which aired on NBC from 1965 to 1968 and starred Ben Gazzara as a man who had been told, by his doctor, that he only had a couple of years to live) in 1966 which helped launch her singing career.

She was signed by A&M Records shortly after her appearance on the show and the song she sang on the show, "Meditation" was the song she recorded and released as her debut single.
10. On the cover of what magazine did Claudine appear in 1977?

Answer: People Weekly

Claudine was on the cover of the January 24, 1977 issue of "People Weekly". She was also the subject of an article in "People Weekly" on April 5, 1976 with the tag line "A Pistol, A Single Shot and the Skier Claudine Longet Had Loved Was Dead".
