Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What city in Poland is Olek Krupa from?

Answer: Rybnik

Rybnik is located in the Silesian Voivodeship, which is in southern Poland. Olek Krupa was born on August 31st, 1955, and spent his early life in Rybnik and also Ryazan, Russia.
2. Olek Krupa's first role in a movie was that of the voice of a man named Jan. He was never seen on camera but the film was still credited as his first. What was the name of this film?

Answer: Far From Poland

Although Olek appeared in all of the movies that were listed as choices, his first was "Far From Poland", released in 1984. The film was a documentary about the Solidarity movement in Poland during the early 1980s. Filmmaker Jill Godmilow was unable to travel to Poland to make the film, so she instead re-enacted interviews that she had obtained to help make the documentary. Jan (Krupa) was one of the people who was interviewed about the Solidarity movement and what his thoughts on it were.
3. Having your death foretold can't be fun, but Tom Kuron's (Krupa) violent end was seen by a medium, played by Rosanna Arquette, in which 1989 film?

Answer: Black Rainbow

Rosanna Arquette played Martha Travis, a medium who helped people communicate with the dead. Her abilities then went beyond her control and she began to foresee the death of her loved ones, including Tom Kuron and her father, Walter (played by Jason Robards). Miramax almost released "Black Rainbow" in 1989, but the plans fell through.

Instead, it was shown at film festivals and various theatres overseas. 20th Century Fox picked it up and it was released to everybody else in 1992. The film was directed by Mike Hodges.
4. Olek Krupa played Beda in "Men of Respect", which was released in 1990 in France and 1991 worldwide. The film was about a hitman, played by John Turturro, who killed his boss to get to the top of the mafia business. What Shakespeare play was this movie based upon?

Answer: Macbeth

"Men of Respect" is based upon "Macbeth", first published in 1623. Rod Steiger's character, Charlie D'Amico, represented King Duncan, who was killed by Macbeth who, in turn, was represented by Mike Battaglia (Turturro) in the film. Macbeth killed King Duncan so that he could become the king, much like Battaglia wanted to become the kingpin of the mob. "Men of Respect" also starred Stanley Tucci and Peter Boyle. Krupa played Beda, an underboss who was contracted to murder Bankie Como (played by Dennis Farina) and Philly Como (played by David Thornton, who would later co-star with Krupa in "Home Alone 3"). Bankie Como and Philly Como represented Banquo and Fleance from "Macbeth", respectively. Beda's "Macbeth" equivalent was one of the three witches, although Shakespeare didn't give them actual names.
5. In "Eraser", Arnold Schwarzenegger played a U.S. Marshal who was trying to stop an electronic pulse rifle from being illegally sold to Olek Krupa's character. What was Olek Krupa's character's name?

Answer: Sergei Ivanovich Petrofsky

"Eraser" was released in 1996 and had a $100,000,000 (U.S. dollars) budget. It also starred Vanessa Williams and James Caan. Other names I threw in for false clues include former Russian leaders, a professional wrestler (Vladimir Kozlov), and a character who Olek Krupa played in 1992's "Mac" (Polowski).
6. Olek Krupa portrayed a defense contractor by the name of Earl Unger in 1997's "Home Alone 3."

Answer: False

Olek Krupa portrayed Petr Beaupre in "Home Alone 3". David Thornton, husband of pop star Cyndi Lauper, played Earl Unger. The movie was about four villains, working for a North Korean terrorist, who were trying to obtain a computer chip to go into a missile. The other two villains were Burton Jernigan (played by Lenny Von Dohlen) and Alice Ribbons (played by Rya Kihlstedt).
7. Although he didn't appear until near the end of the movie as a secondary villain, Olek Krupa played Jean LaFleur in what Martin Lawrence film?

Answer: Blue Streak

"Blue Streak" was released in 1999 and also starred Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, and William Forsythe. Martin Lawrence played a jewel thief who spent time in prison and returned to the scene of the crime to get the jewel. Unfortunately, the scene of the crime had been turned into a police station.

Although Peter Greene played the main villain in this film, Olek Krupa's character, Jean LaFleur, played a drug trafficker who the police were after and confronted near the end of the film.
8. Olek Krupa portrayed genocidal Miroslav Lokar, in 2001's "Behind Enemy Lines". What rank was Lokar?

Answer: General

He is referred to as General Lokar by his second-in-command, In "Behind Enemy Lines", Owen Wilson played a Naval Flight Officer, Chris Burnett, who was shot down by General Lokar in Bosnia. Burnett was then left to wait for help as he uncovered Lokar's plans.

The film also starred Gene Hackman. Olek Krupa is one of the few people to have been in separate films with both Luke and Owen Wilson, although coincidentally, so is Gene Hackman.
9. Olek Krupa has one daughter, although her birthdate is a mystery. What is her name?

Answer: Julia

Julia Ain Krupa is a designer and filmmaker, following in her father's footsteps and working in the movies. She has done costume design for the films "Bringing Rain" (2003) and "Jailbait" (2004). Her mother is Noa Ain, a composer and musician. I hope I didn't trip anybody up by putting Joanna on there, as Joanna Krupa is a famous model, but not related to Olek.
10. Every actor has to have some downtime. Olek Krupa is an avid what?

Answer: skier

To be specific, Olek Krupa is a telemark skier. Telemark skiers are only strapped to the skis by the toes, meaning their heels are free to make turns known as Telemark turns.
