Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is a movie about a group of people brought together to decide another's fate. A certain Fonda and other fine actors face an emotional, sometimes angry, experience. Although not set in a bar, the test is in the glasses. What is the name of this movie?

Answer: 12 Angry Men

Henry Fonda stars in this fine movie about a jury deciding a young person's fate. Is he guilty or innocent? The answer lies in a woman's pair of glasses.
2. On Oct. 12, 1960, I made the television news for throwing a very public tantrum. I was the Premier of the Soviet Union, and I got so mad at a meeting of the United Nations that I took off my shoe and pounded the table with it! Who am I?

Answer: Nikita Khrushchev

The "shoe" incident made Khrushchev look ridiculous to Western eyes.
He had made news as well, in 1959, when he came to the United States for a tour at the invitation of President Eisenhower. A highlight of that trip was
going to Hollywood, where the Khrushchevs met Marilyn Monroe and other stars.
Disappointingly, a trip to Disneyland was cancelled due to security issues.
3. "Alice in Wonderland" featured a character that was neither angry nor insane. Yet, he was called "The Mad Hatter". Why was he called by that name?

Answer: He suffered from a disease related to his occupation

The poor Mad Hatter was suffering from a disease related to the making of hats.
In his work, turning fur into felt, using a mercury solution was necessary in
the 1800s. Breathing the noxious fumes in probably a poorly ventilated workshop led to damage to his body, and he acted in peculiar ways.

Watch out! Mercury can still accumulate in our bodies from many sources. This can even occur before birth.
4. George and Lenny were two great characters from the pen of author John Steinbeck. They appeared in a 1937 novel set in rural California. George seemed to be an angry man, venting his spleen often, but the gentle giant, Lenny, had a soothing effect upon George. What is the name of this great work of American Literature?

Answer: Of Mice and Men

This book was also made into a movie in 1939, starring Burgess Meredith as George and Lon Chaney Jr. as Lenny. Several TV productions were based on the book as well as radio and stage productions.
5. Hey! Just think, you're sitting around, nothing to do except look at your phone or computer - suddenly you see a flock of birds attacking pigs. Looks like fun so you join in, flinging birds at the pigs that have stolen their eggs. You think it's a lot of fun, but what is it?

Answer: Angry Birds

A game from Helsinki, Finland, it's a game for your phone or computer that has
grown hugely popular.
The birds each have their own special skills and attack the bad pigs, their enemies.
I'm told that it's a lot of fun and highly addictive.
6. Suppose you have a problem with anger, who would you go to for help? Adam Sandler? Jack Nicholson? That's who you'll get if you go to this 2003 movie. A nerdy man has to go to anger therapy and is assigned to a psycho therapist. The movie shares its title with a Charlie Sheen TV series, but what is that title?

Answer: Anger Management

The Adam Sandler movie is just for fun, but Charlie Sheen had a real-life,
famous run-in with, seemingly, anger. This episode was connected to his anger with the producer of his TV show, "Two and a Half Men" resulting in his leaving the show. After a few rants and a lot of publicity, he seemed to regain his senses and returned to normal (for him). Don't get me wrong, I like him.
7. Some people, when they are angry with their boss, would like to say exactly what David Allen Coe wrote a song about, "Take This Job and Shove It". It was made famous by an outlaw singer in the '70s. What was this singer's name?

Answer: Johnny Paycheck

Johnny Paycheck, as many others have done, indulged in drugs and alcohol to an extent that ruined his life and health. His reckless life-style even led to a prison sentence at one time. Later, he tried to clean up his life, sadly, too late. He died in 2003.
8. This Warner Bros. cartoon character was a small, red-haired and bad-tempered westerner. He always seemed to express his anger by waving his six-guns in the air and shooting (and shouting). From which national park did he get his name?

Answer: Yosemite

Yosemite National Park in California is known for its wilderness areas, its scenic beauty, and many, many other attractions. It was formed by glaciation, and some of the world's highest waterfalls are found there. I cannot begin to
describe the wonders here, but it would be worth it to go and see it for yourselves.
9. The Ringmaster was not the name of a TV show, but the nickname of the host of a very angry talk-show, one built on conflict. Belligerent guests arguing and fighting with each other made it necessary to have big security men to control them. The host had once been mayor of a large U. S. city. What was this show?

Answer: The Jerry Springer Show

In 1991, in spite of a mild beginning, much like any other talk show, it was soon found that a show based on conflict could bring in the viewers and advertisers.
In spite of a death involving ex-contestents, the show managed to always find an audience. In 2012, it was still broadcasting somewhere - if you haven't seen it, don't bother (my opinion).
10. A group of playwrights and novelists became noted in the years following WWII in the '50s. They wrote critically of social issues in Britain, the mediocrity of the middle class, life seemed drab. The play, "Look Back in Anger", by John Osborne, is an example of this outlook. What were these young idealists called?

Answer: Angry Young Men

British movies embraced this movement. Some of the movies with this theme that became popular are, "The Entertainer", staring Sir Laurence Olivier, "Saturday Night and Sunday Morning", starring Albert Finney, and the aforementioned, "Look Back in Anger" starring Richard Burton.
