1. When Matt and Kate are escaping from the sudden typhoon, they find shelter in a cave. What is inside that cave?

Answer: Hydrium

Matt starts to panic from being landlocked and inside a dark, low-ceilinged cave. Kate asks him why he's so afraid, and he ends up pouring out his heart to her-a very touching scene. But once the rain lets up, the two hear a hissing, and think something is inside the cave with them.

They quickly leave, but when the Aurora is about to be torn apart for balloon making, Matt suddenly remembers that hiss, and the smell of mangoes....

2. Kate drugs Miss Simpkins and goes off alone to explore. Who does Captain Walken send, along with Matt, to go look for her?

Answer: Lunardi

Matt wonders if the captain is punishing him by sending Bruce along, because he knows Matt isn't fond of him, but no other men can be spared.

They think it's all over at first; they can't breathe, and it won't be long before they pass out and then die. But a puff of hydrium gets into Matt's sleeve and raises up his arm, which gives him an idea. They knot the ends of Kate's pants and fill the rest up with hydrium. After that they just hang on and ride to the top of the pit.

6. With the Aurora under the command of Szpirglas and his pirates, how do Matt, Kate, and Bruce get aboard?

Answer: Tail fin

In the bottom of the tail fin is a hatch, six feet or so off the ground. The hatch opens when Matt tries it, and in they go.

Matt gets the sleeping elixir from the infirmary, goes down to the kitchen by way of the dumbwaiter, and gives Vlad the potion. The chef promptly dumps the entire bottle of it into his fish soup.

It was, in fact, a cloud cat. Matt is hanging onto the Aurora's wing with a murderous Szpirglas coming toward him. But then a flock of cloud cats appears-the cripple joining them as if it had never done anything but fly-and one of them dips low and grazes Szpirglas on the shoulder. He loses the safety line and falls into the sea.

Six months after the adventure on the island, Matt (now a student at the Academy) goes to see Kate's speech on the scientific qualities of the cloud cat.

And Kate smiles and replies, "Well, I'll certainly consider it very carefully, then."
