Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many continents are there?

Answer: Seven

The seven continents are North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, Africa, and Australia. Australia is the only continent that is just one country. It's also an island! Sometimes the seventh continent is referred to as Oceania, which includes Australia and many Pacific Ocean islands.
2. If you heard someone say "Bonjour!", which of the following countries would you probably be in?

Answer: France

Bonjour is a French word meaning "Hello". People in both Mexico and Argentina speak Spanish, and the language of Russia is Russian.
3. If I wanted to go from Chicago to New York, which direction would I have to travel in?

Answer: East

New York is on the East Coast, and Chicago is in the Midwest. If I wanted to go from Chicago to New York, I would have to travel east.
4. Where could you find the Colosseum?

Answer: Rome

Rome, Florence, Padua, and Sicily are all places in Italy, but Rome is the city that holds the Colosseum. The Colosseum is the largest amphitheater ever built during the Roman Empire!
5. Which continent has giraffes, elephants, and zebras living in the wild?

Answer: Africa

The plains of Africa hold amazing creatures, and giraffes, elephants, and zebras are only a very few! You can probably see some of these African animals at your local zoo.
6. Is Russia mostly north of China?

Answer: Yes

Most of Russia is directly north of China. Some southern parts of Russia are at the same latitude as China, though.
7. Which animal could you find in Antarctica?

Answer: Penguins

Polar bears are actually found near the North Pole, not the South Pole! A cool fact about penguins is that they can actually be found in warmer climates too. The Galapagos penguin lives near the equator.
8. What country are the cities of Sydney and Brisbane in?

Answer: Australia

You might recognize Sydney from the popular Disney movie "Finding Nemo". Brisbane is another big city in Australia.
9. If you're driving through Illinois and you see the capital building, what city are you near?

Answer: Springfield

Chicago is the biggest city in Illinois, but it is not the capital. Naperville and Cairo are two other towns in Illinois. Fun fact: Cairo is the southernmost point in the whole state!
10. People who live in Brazil speak Portuguese.

Answer: True

Because Portugal conquered Brazil's area of South America a long time ago, Brazilians speak Portuguese and not Spanish.
